Our Solar System is orbiting the center of our Galaxy at about 220 km/s so in 2025 we collectively traveled something like 7 billion kilometers across the Milky Way. Once in a while, when you have a moment, it’s worthwhile to take a look around, see where you are, and appreciate how far you’ve come.

Not now, super-massive runaway black hole!
Astronomers made a truly mind-boggling discovery using the JWST:

A runaway super-massive black hole, rocketing through space at a staggering 1,000 km/s, leaving a 200,000 light-year-long tail in its wake in which gas is accumulating and triggering star formation.

James Webb Space Telescope confirms 1st 'runaway' supermassive black hole rocketing through home galaxy at 2.2 million mph: 'It boggles the mind!'
"The forces that are needed to dislodge such a massive black hole from its home are enormous."

Three ways of looking at the iconic Christmas Tree Cluster, 2700 light years from Earth.

What the universe looks like depends on how we look at it. These views highlight infrared (left), x-rays (middle), and red emission from hydrogen gas. Beautiful in three different ways. 🧪🔭

So love wobbegongs. Everything is good about the wobbegong. Its name. Its flattened Oscar the Grouch face. Its frondy bits. Its lazy life as a hungry rug. And it’s a shark. Outstanding animal 10/10
The Tasselled Wobbegong is a master of disguise that can eat a fish almost as big as itself in one gulp. It's classified as a shark, but when it lays on the sea floor it looks like a harmless rug if you manage to see it. But with powerful jaws and sharp teeth they are no fish to mess with.

Fascinating story. Seems to me there should be technology to find the device.
An American nuclear device disappeared on one of the world’s highest mountains during a covert mission. After losing it 60 years ago, the U.S. government still refuses to acknowledge that anything ever happened.
How Did the C.I.A. Lose a Nuclear Device in the Himalayas?
A plutonium-packed generator disappeared on one of the world’s highest mountains in a covert mission that the U.S. will not talk about.

😆❤️ but also 😬💀

(The short of it is that HF is very deadly if you get enough of it on your skin. Nasty chemical burn but more insidiously it can bind to calcium in your body which can cause, among other things, your heart to stop. 😳) #Chemsky

I went to several box stores around town to pick up a few things this afternoon since it was Black Fri. I asked employees at each store how busy it had been. They all said "it was just steady, not like last yr when it was mobbed."

Makes me wonder what that says about the state of the economy. 🤔
