Proud queer, based in Vancouver, BC (unceded Coast Salish territory). My politics are best described as eco-left. I will definitely also be posting about pop culture and urbanism, and will certainly be engaging in general nihilism. They/them, please.
That's what plates are for!

Wait what. That is the least regrettable activity.

I've tried that and determined it's all Steamed Hams all the way down.

Anyway there are so many other random details on his Wikipedia and now from an initial desire to post a weird and probably genre-inaccurate photo thing I've spent like half an hour in this internet hole. The world is weird and wonderful.

He's also hosted a radio show for like twenty years. In his law career, he's served as a volunteer judge in LA country, which apparently is a thing? You can just volunteer to be a judge??

This led me down a further rabbit hole into Escalante's Wikipedia page. Not only did he play bass and write songs for his band The Vandals, he is a lawyer who's worked on a variety of TV series, and is the creator and director of a paranormal travel series.

Anyway this led me to wonder who wrote the song, and it turns out it's actually a cover. Despite the song clearly being set in Britain, the original band that performed it (and the songwriter Joe Escalante) are American.

Seriously read the lyrics yourself, they're wild. Remember this is a Christmas song! genius.com/No-doubt-oi-...
No Doubt – Oi to the World
[Verse 1] / Haji was a punk just like any other boy / And he never had no trouble 'til he started up his Oi band / Safe in the garage or singing in the tub / 'Til Haji went too far

I've been listening to this song every holiday season for like three decades now and only now do I realise it's a Christmas song about a skinhead beating up someone who wears a turban, then that person taking revenge then eventually… using his turban to save the skinhead and rappel down a building?

Surprise reels are the absolute fucking worst and I'm sick of their obsession with it. Reels at the top, reels in the middle, reels in the feed, reels when you swipe right, reels reels reels! Everything is reels!
