Now that I think about it, at the beginning of the heist, just as Argyle and Karl enter the lobby and before they shoot the security guard, it would have been a nice touch if a couple of Holly's coworkers were seen in the background, headed out, just missing being hostages.

Yes, but it's not so terribly late on Christmas Eve: McClane arrives at the party at sunset. Sunset in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve is at 4:49 p.m, and the party is already in full swing. In my opinion, once Takagi gives his toast, you're free to slip out and go home...
