The movie studios should take underperforming movies from their catalog and use AI to add snow and Christmas lights in the background of all the scenes, add some sleigh bells to the score - make a meh movie into a "Christmas-adjacent" movie!
This is just a friendly reminder that WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING (1995) is one of the great modern Christmas adjacent romantic comedies.

Just as there are movies that don't look like Christmas movies at first glance, there are also obvious Christmas movies that lack any Christmas spirit at all. RUDOLPH is anti-aspirational: it makes me happy we don't have to live like that.

TIDAL Rewind 2025: I'm learning a lot about what my wife and son stream from Tidal in the car on the drive to school. This is our fifth-most-listened-to song for 2025:

Maybe they can take the extra space from the sides of MAD MEN on HBO Max and put it on the top and bottom of all those cropped SEINFELDs on Netflix?

Is there a name for a husband who's even-keeled and maybe boring, but eventually you realize that his wife had chaos or violence in their past, and this is just the kind of fella they need in their lives?

When I watched the first ZOOTOPIA, I was gobsmacked at the horribly misguided racism allegory they attempted to pull off. Disney is back with a sequel, and they haven't learned not to try and teach lessons...

I've started watching Christmas movies and I'm off to a great start! I wrote about Grumpy Old Men on here already, and tonight it's Better Off Dead! Both have lots of real snow - a big plus in my mind - and neither is really about Christmas at all.

Sometimes movies get unfairly passed by even though they deserve to be celebrated. But usually it's because the movie isn't good and that's why no one's talking about it. THE ROSES isn't funny, and if THE ROSES isn't a comedy, it's too sad to sit through.

Lemmon and Matthau's 1993 surprise comeback hit GRUMPY OLD MEN is fun! There's a sweet side to it with a minimum of pandering. It's set at Christmastime, filmed in Minnesota with actual snow! I had no time for this stuff when I was 21. Thirty years later I do. [It's streaming on Pluto]

THE STING at The Triplex Cinema, Great Barrington, MA tonight. A treat to see one of my favorite movies on the big screen for the first time. Tonight I noticed how intimidating Robert Shaw is, and how his character - the mark - is sharp as a tack and misses nothing...yet the con still worked.

I have high hopes for @edgarwright.bsky.social 's remake of THE RUNNING MAN. The original was a solid action screenplay and black satire... spoiled by four directors and rock-bottom production value. For more about the original, see my post here:

Occasionally there's loose talk about airfares based on passenger weight. I support this plan, but not the way you think: Adults under 120 pounds should get a discount, and the passengers sitting next to them should pay extra for the bonus space.
