I like the planet, the people on it, the art they create, and a bunch of other stuff that isn't fascist
The energy coming out of Chicago is inspiring. Times like these make me sad to live in a small Utah town full of Trumpists. But if I give up on this place, who is left?
The streets of Chicago are full with tens of thousands of people standing up to ICE and Trump.

My sister, Thia, used to carry around a random gift shop stuffed tiger every day and refuse to answer to any name besides Calvin. I lost her in 2021 and I think of her all the time. This post made me happy. Happy birthday, Calvin & Hobbes
It’s Calvin & Hobbes cartoonist Bill Watterson’s birthday today. When I was a kid I was so obsessed with Calvin & Hobbes that I carried around a stuffed bear and called it Hobbes. There’s no official merch (which I love), so my grandma painstakingly crafted this for me. Pic of him from my mom today

Showing up to a protest nowadays means picking which terrible heinous act I want to write on a sign, and having WAY TOO MANY CHOICES TO PICK FROM

Someone's partner probably packed them a little treat in their lunch box with a little love note. Someone might have grabbed random food items because they needed to go grocery shopping when they got off work. Each lunchbox represents a devastated family - a whole life.

I was 10 the first time I got into a heated argument with an adult about Palestine. 10 years old and I knew bombing and starving civilians was wrong. I may not have understood the conflict back then, but it turns out that the bottom line isn't that complicated

It seems that anytime I meet a Trumpy woman, there's a Trumpy man behind her whispering sweet facisms into her ear. Single ladies are always at least a little more progressive before they settle for a loser - even the right-wing ladies.

Visited a brand new (opened yesterday) bookshop on Springville Main Street this afternoon.

The Pumpkin Cottage has a great vibe (check out those windows!) and a well-curated selection of titles. I especially liked the table of Black feminist history and novels by Black authors.

Bikes are like libraries
•They provide a sense of community
•People of any economic class can access them
•They fight facism and consumerism
•They are good for your health
•They're good for the planet
•The forces of evil hate them because they take away their power
It feels difficult and somewhat wrong when I talk about bikes and urbanism while our country is imploding. My head is spinning.

Quakers, continually on the right side of history
Oh, per @nbcnews.com: Quaker groups file suit over the end of policy restricting ICE arrests in houses of worship.

Note: Quakers were some of the earliest supporters of Sanctuary, even putting out a booklet on the topic in 1984 (it's still available). www.nbcnews.com/politics/nat...

The suit appears to be the first from a faith-based organization challenging the change in court.

Today, a nine year old was not-so-discreetly asking her mom about my nose piercing. Was I born with it? Why do I have it? In the end, to her mothers dismay, she stated loudly that it was kinda yucky.
She did follow that up by telling her mom that I looked to be 19-20 yrs old though, so I'll take it

Some of us are dems. Some are republicans. Some people don't like pineapple on pizza. But we can all agree that Luigi Mangione is **FOIIINE**
and I think that's really beautiful.

Reposting for my sister @kimberlygsears.bsky.social . I just know she floats and mournfully wails
Writers: yes, you are still a "real" writer if you
- have never published anything
- have no readers
- didn't write anything this month
- didn't write anything this year
- can't articulate words anymore
- can only float and mournfully wail
- were murdered ten years ago on this very spot
