I remember my neurologist casually mentioning "oh, not everyone gets an exercise high" once and being like, "I’m sorry, we need to stop this MRI RIGHT NOW because do you know how many people have told me to exercise for happiness chemicals?"

I was just talking to someone the other day about how I loved the stories (any version thereof) of animals that burrowed in for winter with, like, their little teapots and blankies in their tree-houses, and I think you’re right: cozy little homes where no one would hurt/scare them.
I wanted that.

I’ll hold out for the gay-for-you m/m version with the punny title that ignores the horror of it all because abs. Maybe something like, "Thawing the ICE."

I have to remind myself on the regular that me (and other folk) saying "omg no" creates the negative reinforcement cycle of "see? they’re not like us, only we understand you" of cults/evangelists require as a feature, not a bug.

Catching up on Fated Mates episodes & struck that neither Jen nor Sarah can stand chores and ordinary day-to-day in romance novels. I'm now curious if queer romance readers/writers have a different orientation toward the domestic & ordinary because the fantasy is a safe home where we can be boring.

Anyway. Yeah. When I read a queer romance and the leads are just vibing in a safe place? It’s magical. It’s extra magical, in fact, because me, as a reader, knows that feeling of safe-to-be-ourselves and how pervasive *not* feeling that way is when you’re not somewhere specifically queer/yours.

It was because they came to my damn house to hate me. Our house is one of the few places I get to just *be* with my husband. No shoulder checks. No worries about who might be seeing or listening. (It’s the same reason I hold queer bars/bookstores/other queer spaces so sacrosanct.)
They invaded it.

Which they definitely proved true by their "I just tasted liquid excrement" expressions before turning and walking off without another word.
At the time, it took me a while to click as to why—even though it was pretty tame as anti-queer moments go—it left me at first discomforted, and then angry.

I handled it, and it wasn’t a particularly long exchange, but they were there to invite me to some sort of event "taking place on the actual date of Jesus’s (something or other, birth, death, resurrection? I don’t remember)" and I did a calm but firm, "I doubt my husband and I would feel welcome."

OMG this.
Like, folks sharing a kitchen and just moving around each other in that little dance people can do when they’re all in synch and maybe pausing for a touch here or a shared glance there is magic.

Trent, Jay, and Rick are also part of two friend groups that will be mixing as part of a "group costume contest" they’re trying to win; Rick and his friend Yves; Trent, Jay, and their friends Hank and Dave.
That growing support network is the foundation of the whole series, not the romances.
