that second part matters because sports is doing just fine from a business and audience level despite these rolling scandals.
They are, to be entirely clear, horrible but i am currently very skeptical that it’s depressing interest, let alone hurting bottom lines.

Two things happening.
1) gambling incentivizes anti-social and anti-competitive behavior and further commoditizes the humans involved. I don’t think it’s a moral panic.
2) gambling exacerbates impulses that were already codified by the contemporary management of the major US pro leagues.
