Massachusetts drivers are being tracked and their data is being shared nationwide — thanks to police using license plate readers (LPRs) made by Flock and other tech companies.

Does your local police department use LPRs? Take action to find out: mobilize.aclum.org/a/email-your...

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this video.

I don’t know how we’ve gotten to the point where men in full balaclavas can abduct daycare teachers while they’re watching children.

But I do know that this isn’t sustainable. Abolish ICE. There is no way to reform this.

Saying there’s “no demand” for fake EBT clips ignores centuries of profitable anti-Black caricature. The audience isn’t duped… they’re served.

New: Videos show ICE/CBP agents are scanning peoples' faces on the street to verify citizenship. ICE has tool to instantly look up unprecedented number of databases with just a photo

“I’m an American citizen so leave me alone”

“Alright, we just got to verify that”

ICE and CBP Agents Are Scanning Peoples’ Faces on the Street To Verify Citizenship
Videos on social media show officers from ICE and CBP using facial recognition technology on people in the field. One expert described the practice as “pure dystopian creep.”

I don’t know if this is universally true but it is interesting that we say “Indian Americans” and also “British Indians.” Why is the order flipped?

Some of the best times I’ve had in Southeast Asia have been exploring malls — they really use space well. You’ll leave a store and in the walkway run into a booth selling vintage electronics or cool sandals.
The mall may be long dead in the United States. But travel enough in Asia, Africa and South America and you’ll find that the mall is often where it’s at

Someone from the VA is trying to rid certain Wikipedia pages of “radical leftist” ideology…

…like calling an alt-right Fox-owned website what it is.

Finally, the RFI invites prospective contractors to describe how they would use artificial intelligence. But as @nasser.wiki & I recently explained, AI is likely to create more problems than it solves in trying to flag people for what they say or do online. 12/ www.brennancenter.org/our-work/res...
“Continuous Vetting” of All Visa Holders Is Impossible, but the Threat Alone Chills Free Speech
Government claims of AI-powered surveillance create an illusion of total oversight that encourages self-censorship without actually improving security.

Great piece from @dell.bsky.social at @wired.com about ICE's newest foray into social media monitoring: the agency is putting out feelers for contractors who can do on-site, open source intel 24/7 for ICE's Targeting Operations Division (TOD). 1/ www.wired.com/story/ice-so...

Rewatched The Martian last night. It really feels like a product of a different time. I want to live in a society that can inspire future generations to build big things that propel us forward. It’s culture first. No wonder we feel so hopeless with tech, it’s profoundly+intentionally anti-democratic

Just to be blunt, if you want Wired and 404 and The Verge to employ reporters who understand the memes on bullet casings and can connect them to gaming culture while having the legal and support resources to deal with waves of harassment when we do it… you have to subscribe and pay for the work
the entire media ecosystem is just not built or ready for events like this and far right billionaires like larry ellison buying news orgs will only make this worse

I’m not entirely sure how an 8.7 magnitude earthquake is 6 times larger than an 8.0 magnitude quake and releases about 15 times more energy. Crazy.

The best thing Zohran could do rn is to make a video about all of this lol
Uganda had a leader named Idi Amin, a war-mongering corrupt asshole who Eric Adams apparently finds fascinating, and he decided it would be real fun to kick every Asian out of Uganda. Including my stepdad and Zohran’s dad.
