I've got a feeling this social media ban in Aussie will be good, if they can just hold the course after the inevitable individual negative publicity.

It's not like social media is the only way for young people in minorities to communicate.

Lovely article in RNZ about little known artist Fanny Osborne with great final comments about the bush.

Is Fanny Osborne our most impressive forgotten artist?
The mother of 13 lived on Great Barrier Island and did exquisite watercolour paintings of native plants in the early 1900s.

Nerd fact (I’m a marine biologist after all), when luciferin and luciferase (gotta love the biblical names) join together, they react with the oxygen in the air to make an oxidised complex. After that, luciferin emits a photon, and that is what you see when it breaks

When Massachusetts passed a "millionaires tax" in 2023, conservatives claimed the rich would flee.

But two years later, they haven't — and MA has collected $5.7B for infrastructure and public education.

A reminder that positive change can still happen at the state level.

We've watched two Hollywood movies on two consecutive nights. I am over watching emotionally stunted Americans make bad decisions.

The first was a comedy so at least I wasn't supposed to take it seriously. The second was a drama and even more ludicrous.

Luxon is the kind of man who claims every entitlement he qualifies for whether he needs it or not.

Luxon is the kind of man that takes benefit entitlements away from 18 and 19 year olds, saying that "the world doesn't owe them a living."

Luxon has created an economy where they can't find jobs.

His reasoning for removing ancient law (tikanga) from NZ Law is so lame it must be a smoke screen for something else, perhaps he's just anti-Māori.

The minister claims New Zealand's "bespoke" legal system could discourage overseas investment.

I was in a bike lane today and a car turned left in front of and across me. I had to emergency break. Who has right of way I wonder? Are bike lanes the footpath or another road lane?

Ok. I'm calling it. Luxon will quit as PM 6 months before the next general election saying he's satisfied with the work he's done, sorted.

Every policy from ACT ruins our country a little every day. Polling stations should have an air of rejoicing- revelling in democracy ….any thing rhat makes voting harder is a right wing strategy to suppress voter turnout, ‘ that in itself is bad. People who don’t think everyone should vote are bad.
If you want to know how petty this govt is - not only are you not allowed to get a drink, hot dog, or lollies at a polling station anymore, you're not even allowed to smell food or hear music from within 100 metres of the polling station

Also note the low key racist overtones by ACT here
