Over 2024, we saw major tech investors and company owners overtly turn toward the right, overtly backing Donald Trump in his electoral campaign. This group of individuals, which commentators have take...

john elster's footnote from an article about why marxists should adopt game theory where he notes that just because capitalists benefit from a particular division in the working class does not mean they created it or maintain it

the amount of recognizable names in the epstein emails is fucking blackpilling dude

like i always imagined there'd be...... *more people*, i guess? more names i wouldn't recognize? more randos, given the scale of it all? but no it's literally like if your personal high school clique owned society
The Washington Post editorial board decided the Epstein files have “no public interest” before even seeing them. That’s a stunning position for any newsroom to take. Praising Clay Higgins as the lone ‘no’ vote, too? No wonder no one trusts legacy media. Absolutely disgusting.

given the way news works on here, you could probably go pretty far as a gimmick account only reacting to events and information from a month or more ago

if mamdani can save new york from occupation by being friendly with trump you take that win, just do that and you become one of the most consequential politicians in america right now
anyway, this was a very smart thing for Mamdani to do and he should keep an open line with the White House because I legitimately think that “I can call up and talk to the president directly” will allow him to save NYC from some of the worst retaliatory shit

Musk is a parasite on the future; he preys upon the imagination of others, taking any vision of a better world and depreciating it by hawking options on a transparently fake facsimile.

He is capitalism's full-throated assault on the utopian imaginary.

Because they cannot imagine letting go of it.

I think a good example is arguing about politics by other means. There is a near religious belief it is not possible but pointing out this is precisely what the GOP has achieved with the shutdown and illegal cuts causes a short circuit.

i think derivative of this is point is the question "what does responsible punditry look like?"
a concept i talk about a lot with the guy i'm seeing is "fast thinking", which is like low-grade, shallow, and easily disposable pop intellectualism. key hallmarks include focusing on discourse over substance, not being able to separate similar form from different content, and "annoying = evil"
legitimately i think one of the core failings of centrist pundits is that they have come to define themselves by what they are against--to chart their intellectual course by who they think is being annoying this week--instead of by recourse to genuine principle

[puts on queer radical feminist hat]

I think this is related to Megyn Kelly's not-technically-a-pedophile remarks.

Reactionary patriarchy only cares about sorting "normal" from "deviant".

It doesn't care about sufficiently *normal* kinds of violence, abuse, coercion, harm, etc.
I cannot begin to properly articulate how upsetting it is to have had people baselessly accuse trans people of being groomers and pedophiles only for it to come out that they were deliberately doing this as part of a project to provide cover to actual groomers and pedophiles in positions of power

also finding out that one of the most popular utilitarian writers on substack doesn't understand linear algebra is doing wonders for my self-esteem this morning
"Lastly, there is the Sokal Hoax, wherein many different nonsense papers were sent to continental philosophy journals."

What is even happening here? The "vibe" of this history has so completely diverged from anything like a factual accounting.
