My son's youngest uncle,(38) just 5 years older than my son, passed 2 days ago after being on life support for 2 weeks. My ex mother in law has lived to see her second grandchild murdered and now her youngest pass.

Yes he was handsome. But give some credit to the meticulous attention his wife Anna Murray Douglass paid to his care, his home, & the presentation of his garments. It was Anna, a free woman who he met in Baltimore, who out of her meager savings gave FD the money for his train ride to escape.

People do understand that electeds catering to those that elect them, thus they DO cater to their base? The political vote in America isn't wildly left leaning. It *could* be more so if regular people did the job of talking with friends, family, community and even then it isn't guaranteed.

My mom, who lives in a pro MAGA Bobert rural ag area, encountered an elderly white veteran who told her about ICE coming to his door to let him know he cannot post anti ICE rhetoric. Now he is old enough to be confused about agencies, however it is still a govt arm at his doorstep.

This is why we had Jim Crow instead of truth and reconciliation after slavery ended. People are so quick to absolve anyone who pays lip service to changing their mind about human rights violations instead of letting them live with the social consequences of their words
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?

You could actually structure your moral code around the idea that law enforcement doesn't exist to execute people. You don't have to create perfect victim narratives, you can just refuse to accept that the state gets to kill people.
