the reason why democrats are incapable/ineffective at fighting against trump is because they refuse to acknowledge that the zionist project is interlinked with the far right/ ethnic nationalist / authoritarian movement in the west

im surprised that I haven't seen anyone make this connection yet, but this is pretty much the exact strategy that Israel uses on Palestinians in Gaza
A fourth boat bombed in international waters. Total death toll now 19

What I dont get is, if these boats are "carrying fentanyl" as Trump says (they absolutely arent. Even the DEA says VZ doesnt produce fentanyl), then why not seize one and show us?

U.S. naval forces have sunk a fourth suspected drug boat in the Caribbean, Trump says
U.S. naval forces have conducted another lethal strike on a vessel President Donald Trump said was tied to a designated terrorist organization involved in drug trafficking in the Caribbean.

as the federal government cracks down on free expression on web2 media what is likelihood that this triggers further migration to #atproto 🤔

My "Introduction to #ATProto" blog post that I've been working on for some time is ready 🙂 It goes through things like records, lexicons, DIDs, then PDS/AppView etc. and how it all works together. Let me know if anything is wrong!

More parts later, with the Fedi comparisons & misconceptions etc.

One thing that has caught be by surprise is becoming more and more drawn to libertarianism as I've gotten older. It just seems like every time there's an opportunity, the state takes it to increase power to infringe on peoples rights

I watched the first few episodes, enjoyable so far and well written. The character development feels natural

So we're outsourcing initial job interviews to AI now? You'd think all the productivity gains would free up humans for the important things, like interviewing our future co-workers.

At this pace, every candidate will need their own interview bot to keep up. Soon, bots will be interviewing bots.

The irony of the Internet is that in many ways it has done opposite of what was expected of it. For instance, though it has made information more accessible, people are now more misinformed. It's easier to connect yet loneliness is more present in our society, people are more polarized etc

It's tragic that the current trajectory of AI is not a future with some tranquility and some type of UBI, instead we're looking at a future that increasingly feudalistic, of the haves and have nots

Capitalism can be so ludicrous when you think about it. You're telling me half of Latina America was destabilized because of a banana company?

The one good thing about the era of the internet is just how much it has decentralized information flows. If this was a couple of decades ago it would be terrifying, but increasingly larger sharer of Americans don't get news from legacy media anymore
I've been saying to friends for a few months that the more I study authoritarianism in other countries, the more concerned I become that the CBS story is the sleeping giant here. The process has been a simmer (people inside the network have spoken out in real-time) but don't mistake slow for safe.
One of the first things Vladimir Putin did on becoming president was take over NTV, the TV channel that hosted a satirical puppet show because he didn't like the Putin doll and how he was portrayed. He arrested NTV's owner and only released him when he signed the channel over. #Colbert

I think much of the negativity around LLMs stems from sci-fi perceptions that set expectations the technology can't meet. They're a tool that enhances some of our capabilities, like how calculators help do math. When you accept that, is when you begin to realize how useful they can actually be
There are a lot of critiques of LLMs that I agree with but "they suck and aren't useful" doesn't really hold water.

I understand people not using them because of social, economic, and environmental concerns. And I also understand people using them because they can be very useful.

Thoughts?

How does the saying go? The best leaders are those who never sought to lead. Maybe that's why twitter sucks, the person that runs it is obsessed with clout
the funniest thing about bluesky is that most of the bluesky staff and contributors don't seem to mention that fact in their bio or very often generally so they're just random people

does this eventually happen to all generations? 😮
The great thing about being born is 1980 is that I get to swap my genx card out for a millennial card the moment everyone realizes genx is going to be just as selfish and nasty as the boomers were.
