NPR senior producer. I love this fool country and this fool cat. And my grandfather had impressive melons.
Spent my entire afternoon/evening watching Downton Abbey and finishing the quilting of the interior of this gift for a sweet little girl. The theme is tea time.

Will think of those hours fondly as I dive back into news today… it’s grim.

Alan Dershowitz is one of those claiming Epstein was not a pedophile because he pleaded guilty to one count of having sex for money with a 17-year-and-10-month-old person. "That’s not a pedophile." See this important response from Julia Brown, the brave reporter who broke the news on this

“Peregrination” is such a great word, and I don’t think I’ve seen it in print for over a decade.

Thomas McGuane is among the last great outdoorsmen-novelists. Tyler Austin Harper visited the author on his Montana ranch to see what we stand to lose:

Went on a witch-hunt today. Ended up at the house of Rebecca Nurse, the 71 year-old woman executed in 1692 because people were dumb and believed what they wanted to believe.

And then told my son about “The Crucible” and it’s relation to McCarthyism.

History. It burns and rhymes.

Escaped to the Regency Era for the Jane Austen Society of North America’s annual convention. Learned English Country Dancing and cravat tying. Spoke to many about Mr. Darcy, Lizzie, Anne Elliot, Emma, Mrs. Jennings and fell in love with my job all over again.

This is important to keep in mind.
A good point here. It's important to remember Nat Guard troops didn't sign up for this sort of deployment. They are entirely different from new ICE recruits.

Remember: These are not MAGA stormtroopers. These are everyday teachers and accountants who signed up to serve their country with their spare time. They're being used as political pawns by venal, un-American, draft-dodging president
