For those who are in the federal service or those who have recently separated against your will:

Remember your oath.

Exercise your rights to their fullest extent allowable by law. Do not volunteer away what has not, and cannot be, taken from you.

For those who are not in federal service: listen to and amplify our voices. We are too few to be heard on our own. Reach out to those you know and be there for them. This is a difficult time for many of us.

Many of us fear speaking out due to misunderstandings of our rights, or more likely, stepping out of line and increasing our risk of extrajudicial retribution. We can however, advocate for the law, justice, and state the facts as they stand, irrefutably.

From us. For many, it already has.

For those of you not in government circles, know that all federal employees are bound by the Hatch Act. We are limited in what we can say in public specifically to prevent the politicization of our capacities.

and for three different federal service positions. I have meant every word of these oaths. I chose a life of service to my country, not defined by partisanship, but rather explicit loyalty to my country and its constitution. I, and many others, are at risk of that call to service being stripped

That is no longer the leading assumption. I have no information about the future security of my position. Many of my closest friends have not been as lucky.

The PMF Program was terminated by executive order late Wednesday night. To the best of my knowledge, I still hold my job. I previously understood my position to be protected due to its importance for national security.

Today I took my headshot for the Presidential Management Fellowship.

At the time, I fully expected it to be the last action I took as a federal employee.

The reason to fight is not necessarily to win. It is to do the right thing. There is immense satisfaction in working for causes and ideal greater than yourself. You must do good wherever you can. And when you cannot you bear witness. It is why I am past grief, past depression.
