I am strongly pro-diversity in accents and dialects—until we get to how almost all of you have lost the marry / Mary / merry distinction, and then I want to send everyone to speech class.

I’ve been trying to articulate this for forever - Americans think class is about what you can buy and class status/conception has been impacted by increasing costs of goods. That’s why no one cares wages are up if prices are up too!
the only collective consciousness Americans have right now is *consumer* consciousness and that is bad news for redistribution
the part of DSA I believe in is the part that doesn't baselessly assume the existence of American class consciousness
