I just finished reading Muriel Rukeyser's The Book of the Dead yesterday afternoon, a long poem cycle about poor West Virginia miners dying of silicosis they weren't adequately warned or protected against — a dry drill three times as fast as a wet drill, etc. That was in 1931.
