I feel comfortable with our local shelter, if need be. They are very good. But people here are familiar with his quirks and (ahem) strong personality that might surprise a new family from a shelter.

Yes. We have a really good shelter and he will be loved and they will find a good home for him, if need be. I knew when I got a kitten that this would be an issue, but I needed the kitten/cat therapy and he's been unbelievably good for me. Hopefully it won't happen soon.

Thanks. I have a lot of notifications and have just started to look at them, so I hope you are right. I have no immediate plans to depart this earth or (egad!) go to assisted living or some such, but the older I get, the odds certainly are not in my favor.
