A brief intro: I'll be posting about my love of many things starting with the desert. Writing book on grief & almost done. What began as a year long project now on year 2 and 193 pages. Loving the whole messy process. Image of me working in the field.

#WildHorses The stallion, watching as we came over a ridge, casually continued up the hill to his family. Knowing we were behind him at a distance, he led us to them as if to show them off. Respect.

#HowLossShapesUs

In earlier research, I focused on the health of early farming females. There were many young women in these burial assemblages.

What did their loss mean for their family and community?

We're not meant to carry the weight of the world alone. If we each do what we can for a hurting world, the world will be better because you and I are in it.

Have you experienced ‘mental fog’ after a significant loss? You are not alone.

Grief disrupts our basic ability for cognitive function, such as making decisions, accessing memories, processing words, and responding in conversation.

Through time, human beings have always shared their stories. Made their mark. Left their imprint. Demonstrating the deep human need to be seen and heard. To be known.

Every story told and every story heard adds to the making of us.

Give yourself space & grace for new things to come. Make room for new wonders & experiences in your life.

It is the gift of a New Year. A New Day. A New Dawn.

Today can be that new beginning. The day you begin to dream again.

This little guy is a baby desert tortoise. Mojave tortoise are a protected species.

We find these babies wandering in our yard until they wander back out... I hope to see him again when he’s a wee bit bigger than an inch.

Do you see only a mountain in front of you? Shift focus. Don't think about the climb. Look deeply & really see the mountain.

How deeply rooted in the earth. How ancient its wisdom. What is this mountain teaching me?

There is a quiet in the desert that soothes me. The hush wraps around me like a cloak. A stillness calls as I abandon my earthbound self. In the vastness, my thoughts are free to wander unrestrained among the stars.

I dream of the ages.
