While Cheapjack Gentlemen is a purely fictional comic, much of it is inspired by true historical events and real people.

Edmund and Wilkinson, the protagonists, were inspired by William Burke and William Hare.

An old drawing of little baby Dudley and Lawrence that I recently colored.

We'll learn more about their relationship in Dudley's backstory!

I mostly talk about Cheapjack Gentlemen, but I have a TON of OCs/comic ideas that never made it. One was a story following the staff of a power plant in the netherworld, powered by human souls. It's a bit like Styx, if it was a factory. A mix of death-related mythology from different cultures.

Carl Tanzler was a German-American radiographer who became disturbingly obsessed with his patient, Elena Milagro de Hoyos - even after her death. He lived with her body for years, rebuilding her decomposing corpse. He danced with it, serenaded it, and…I’ll leave the rest up to your imagination.

In 2026, it will be 6 years since I started Cheapjack Gentlemen as a comic, 10 years developing the story, and 10 years of making comics seriously.
Hoping it pays off!

Some Cheapjack Gentlemen art from 2019.

The visual designs of the main protagonists of Cheapjack Gentlemen (Wilkinson and Edmund) are based on a crow and a vulture -- birds of prey associated with death.

The original comic was part of an anthology kickstarter that failed to fund. I thought I lost the whole comic since, but I managed to find it on my old computer.

I can’t look at it without cringing, but I can’t deny that it’s technically the pilot comic of Cheapjack Gentlemen.

Who up for some cursed content?
Here's the original Cheapjack Gentlemen pilot from 2017, a piece of Cheapjack Gentlemen history that hasn’t seen the light of day since I made it.

Cheapjack Gentlemen is a horror-comedy webcomic set in the Victorian era.
A crafty quack doctor and a somber undertaker become partners in crime, selling cadavers to a dubious medical school - however, personal differences create issues in their business.

Cheapjack Gentlemen pages 9-12. Still slowly working on reformatting/relettering, it's getting there! All that's left is fixing up the lettering.

Meanwhile, you can read the entire thing in vertical scroll format over on Tapas, Globalcomix, and Comicfury.

A few of my favorite Dudley panels from Cheapjack Gentlemen.
Dudley Thompkins is a shy and naive surgical assistant. Also, a huge fan of neckties.

I read an entire speech from a surgeon to his apprentices circa 1820's for these couple of lines, hahaha.
I might go a little overboard with research for writing. What else am I going to do with my time, though? Socialize to convince everyone I'm a human? ...Which I am, I swear.
