if you're one person making a comic by yourself, don't treat yourself like you should function on the same level as comics that have multiple people working on them. your backgrounds can be squiggles and colors.

allow yourself room to be abstract with details and give yourself some grace

There's such a disconnect with modern comic book readers, especially Webtoon readers, on how comics are made. People ask me insane questions like 'will this porn comic be on webtoon' or 'can you update twice a week this time' or 'why is this paywalled'.

A peek into Edmund's character and backstory with a few comic panels.

Edmund is a cunning quack doctor and one of the protagonists of Cheapjack Gentlemen - a horror-comedy comic about a quack doctor and an undertaker who start a body snatching business.

Expanding on the previous "comics are hard" post -- not to mention that if you take too long of a break from putting out pages, a chunk of your audience will lose interest and you have to start from square one (or maybe two) with marketing again, bahahaha.

The Cheapjack Gentlemen cast and their younger selves.

The scene with the execution was filmed at Lawnmarket in Edinburgh, where many public hangings actually took place -- including William Burke (of the Burke and Hare duo). OH!?
Finally got around to seeing Frankenstein, wow. The symbolism, the color theory, the compositions, allusions to art pieces, everything.
I haven't seen anyone point it out yet, but was the lab modeled after a dakhma? Genius reference.
This movie covered at least 80% of my special interests.

Added some color to this panel from Dr. Crowley & Thompkins' debut in Cheapjack Gentlemen.
...Yes, the only two students chose to sit in the back row. It's not a perk to get front-row seats to Dr. Crowley's surgical shows.

Sketch from a while ago that I never finished, here's some Thompkins target practice.

Kindly asking Guillermo del Toro if I can borrow his Frankenstein audience for moment to show them my comic about diabolical Victorian-era medical science and grave robbing

While Cheapjack Gentlemen is a purely fictional comic, much of it is inspired by true historical events and real people.

Edmund and Wilkinson, the protagonists, were inspired by William Burke and William Hare.

An old drawing of little baby Dudley and Lawrence that I recently colored.

We'll learn more about their relationship in Dudley's backstory!

I need to make a compilation of every time I've gotten the comment "this is underrated" on my comic.
I know it's said with good intentions, and it's nice!
But it's also a reminder that 10 years of comic making and thousands of hours of marketing still hasn't done much, hahaha.

I mostly talk about Cheapjack Gentlemen, but I have a TON of OCs/comic ideas that never made it. One was a story following the staff of a power plant in the netherworld, powered by human souls. It's a bit like Styx, if it was a factory. A mix of death-related mythology from different cultures.

In 2026, it will be 6 years since I started Cheapjack Gentlemen as a comic, 10 years developing the story, and 10 years of making comics seriously.
Hoping it pays off!
