Shock horror!

Original OBR estimates re private schools VAT changes turn out to be mostly correct, if anything an underestimate of the tax being raised.

And honestly I don't give a fuck if it's popular or not. It's going to make a lot of kids' lives better. That's the point of government. Not an opinion poll.

Whatever else this government do (and there's plenty of issues with this budget) ministers will always be able to point to this as an incredible important contribution to the country's future. Almost half a million kids taken out of poverty.
Scrapping the two-child limit in full is a monumental decision. Well done to all involved in the Child Poverty Strategy, and everyone who has made the case against the policy.

OBR says scrapping costs £3 billion in 2029-30 and will lift 450,000 out of poverty

btw, if the 2009/10 tax allowances had been updated each year by RPI it would still be lower than it is now.

I think at this point if you're including Diane Abbott - a woman who has never held government office, has been a backbencher since 2020, and is scarcely a government ally - on your list of political wrongdoers, we all know exactly what your real concerns are

Deputy Speaker claiming parliament is sovereign and should hear everything first, as is traditional.

But this hails from times before ministers could speak directly to every citizen who wanted to hear them.

In a democratic system the citizens are sovereign. Perhaps time to update the tradition.

Happy for govt to cut “waste” in the benefits budget. Very happy. But only after they cut waste on:
▪️HS2
▪️Road building
▪️Defence procurement
▪️the monarchy
▪️refurbing parliament

Spend more on collecting the billions of unpaid rather than focusing on the smaller amount of overpaid benefits.

It is hard to know who to trust though. The lying narcissistic liar who lies all the time, who got chased out of Downing Street by his own ministers for all the lies he told, or the independent inquiry.

Tricky one.

The really great thing about the internet, and social media especially, is that everyone has the ability to reach a global audience.

The really terrible thing about the internet, and social media especially, is that everyone has the ability to reach a global audience.

The thing to note is just how cheaply this man was prepared to sell out his country to gain wealth. In much the same way as he sold out his values moving from party to party to gain power.

I have no “in principle” objections to trying out novel teaching arrangements though this seems a quite expensive way to provide a short term solution to a problem (though if the remote teacher is paid by the hour it may work).

Suspect it could work for top sets.
