I took a few moments this morning to write about why this shutdown deal sucks — how caving to GOP cruelty again is maddening. But also how it feels like the final gasp of an older Democratic Party that never really knew how to fight.

This Shutdown Deal Sucks
It's not all bad news, though.

Again, the divide in the Democratic Party isn't ideological. Plenty of moderates and center-left Democrats oppose this shutdown deal. It's about who has the stomach to win these fights against the Republicans. Who can throw a punch and who can't.

Not a great sign that I'm so numb to Trump's insanely corrupt pardons that I just eyerolled at him parodying Rudy Giuliani this morning.

At least I'm pretty sure he knows who Giuliani is...

Really glad the Supreme Court declined to hear Kim Davis' bullshit case on gay marriage, but I do think they’ll eventually hear a challenge to Obergefell. Like Roe, it's a long-term goal of these people to overturn it and ban gay marriage again.

Good fucking morning to everyone except the Democratic Senators who sided with Republicans on this shutdown deal. Yeah, I want it over too—but not at the cost of letting health care premiums double or triple. All we’ve done is prove, once again, that Democrats are too weak to deliver.

Surely the moment the government reopens, Trump will rush to release those totally not inconveniently delayed job and inflation reports, right? RIGHT??
November 10, 2025 at 2:57 AM
In other news, no excuse not to swear in Adelita Grijalva now, which means...

RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES!!!

If you're pissed off about the shutdown vote, channel that energy into donating or volunteering for a Democratic candidate with some backbone. I’m donating to Mallory McMorrow and Peggy Flanagan in the morning.

I can’t imagine how furious the people who patiently suffered through this shutdown must be—hoping the Democrats would actually save these health care subsidies.
November 10, 2025 at 12:10 AM
Speaker Johnson has repeatedly said he won’t schedule a vote on extending the Obamacare subsidies. So what good is a Senate deal to end the shutdown that hinges on them promising a vote? It would be pointless.

Two people were killed last night in Chicago during an armed robbery—and witnesses were too afraid to contact law enforcement, fearing ICE might show up and kidnap people.

Nobody in America is safer when people are too scared to call the police.

Speaking of checks… where’s that DOGE payout they promised us?
November 9, 2025 at 3:12 PM
If Trump wants to talk affordability, maybe don’t send out a guy worth $500 million who looks like he just laid off your dad.
November 9, 2025 at 3:09 PM
Brutal clip of Trump's Treasury Secretary downplaying electricity price increases. He's trying to blame the states instead of taking responsibility for this administration's disastrous policies.
November 9, 2025 at 3:03 PM
Trump is out here promising $2K checks to every American like that makes up for his inflation. The guy has no clue that his tariffs, energy prices, and health care hikes have cost most Americans far more than $2K this year.

I'd bet the average family is paying at least $5K more than last year.
November 9, 2025 at 2:51 PM
A bunch of Republicans will be on the Sunday shows today defending Trump’s economy.

Meanwhile, here’s what everything costs now:

• Amazon: up 13%
• Target & Walmart: up 5%
• Utilities: up 12%
• Furniture: up 10%
• Coffee: up 41%
• Beef: up 14%
• ACA premiums: doubling or tripling

Good fucking morning to everybody except this dancing asshole, Javier Milei—who Trump gave $40 billion of YOUR money to bail out Argentina while 40 million Americans face starvation.

America First, my ass.
November 9, 2025 at 1:46 PM
Morning folks, I’ll be on NewsNation again in about 10 minutes talking about the government shutdown and Republican attacks on SNAP.
November 9, 2025 at 11:56 AM
Another thing about Trump’s 50-year mortgage idea: a 30-year mortgage already sucks for regular people. It’s great for banks, awful for equity. A home is basically a forced savings account—stretching that out to 50 years is cartoonishly stupid and solves nothing.
November 9, 2025 at 12:24 AM
Trump’s 50-year mortgage proposal is a spectacularly dumb idea. He’s basically admitting he has no clue how to lower housing costs—just a plan to enrich banks and trap Americans in debt until they die.
November 9, 2025 at 12:22 AM
I know they’ll never name the D.C. stadium after Trump, but why does this asshole have to inject himself into everything? Let people enjoy football this weekend without thinking about his dumb, selfish ass.
November 8, 2025 at 5:15 PM
I continue to think "we'll starve kids and cancel air travel before the holidays unless you let us hike health care premiums" is a really stupid shutdown message from the Republicans.
November 8, 2025 at 3:31 PM
Good fucking morning to everyone except Donald Trump's lawyers, who filed an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court to block a ruling requiring the government to fully fund food assistance for 40 million Americans. Meanwhile, the president’s out golfing this weekend—doing nothing to end the shutdown.
November 8, 2025 at 3:06 PM
I'm in Florida, and the biggest story on the local news is the state attorney general trying to cancel a drag Christmas show. This is why people hate politicians and don't trust the media. Forty million Americans are staring down starvation, and this is what they're talking about? Come the fuck on.
