Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

Democrats can and should be much more openly contemptuous. They owe terrorists nothing and they should treat Nazis like Nazis. But it’s true that almost none of these appeasers could pull it off.
The dignified, low-level rage and contempt Zelensky channels as he confronts Trump and Vance is a model for what leadership could look like right now, and it's hard to imagine any top Democrat pulling it off.
