The Finns have my favourite bear euphemisms - lightfoot, honey-paw, dweller of the land, old man of the forest, forest-apple, Otava (the name of the Ursa Major constellation)...even Karhu itself doesn't actually mean 'bear', it's a euphemism in of itself
It's believed we've lost the true name for bear in Germanic languages - "bear" roughly means "brown one," a euphemism used instead of the true name because it was believed that saying their true name would summon the bear.
