Man do I also hate this. I get it too, but boy do I hate it. Reducing a book to tropes in general is obnoxious. There's nothing that viscerally makes me want to read a book less than a detailed readout of its least-original components.
I get why authors are compelled to do it, but few things make me want to read a book/story less than those tropelist pointing to the book marketing banners. I really wish they'd go away, but I guess they Do work as a marketing tactic on more people than they're off-putting to.

Sometimes I have lovely interactions with cool people and it makes me feel special. Other times I feel as though every person I find to be super cool secretly thinks I'm a total dipshit but they're way too nice to tell me they aren't at all interested in talking to me any further.

Okay, time for Galaxy of Terror for this week's #horrorwatch with the crew! It's on Tubi and Shudder if you want to join us. Hitting play in t-minus one minute! I'm pretty sure I haven't seen this, but now I'm reading the synopsis, I'm not 100% sure ...

No one should have to face such threats.

It would’ve been nice if Greene had realized this before she amplified and endorsed calls for executing Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama.

I don't like doing this, but when a friend comes to me in distress because their publisher is using AI to promote an anthology they're in, I feel compelled to call it out. Weird House Press has used AI before and continues to do so. See below. Keep that in mind if you want to work with them.

Gonna try to make this tonight! I'm not the biggest Corman fan, but I haven't seen this and I gotta get my classical education.
Tonight! Tonight! The greatest night of the week! Join me, my atrophied aliens of doom for this week's #HorrorWatch! Tonight at 9pm EST we visit that old outer space Corman cheeseball classic, Galaxy of Terror! Baby faced Robert Englund! Sid Haig! Special fx that stretch to the edges of its budget!
Galaxy Of Terror (1981) - Official Trailer
When a team of astronauts land on a strange planet to rescue a stranded space ship, they are soon attacked by alien creatures - physical manifestations of fears projected by their own imaginations.…

I loved KEEPER. You might not love KEEPER. I'm betting this one will be the kind of divisive that gets people into fights, but it's my kinda weird. Worth catching in a theater to soak in the fabulous atmosphere.

A ★★★★ review of Keeper (2025)
Suspect this will be divisive, but I think it's my favorite Osgood Perkins movie. It achieves one thing incredibly well: being almost appallingly unsubtle at times while still feeling really measured ...

Trump upgraded "antifa" from a domestic terrorist organization (it's not) to an INTERNATIONAL terrorist organization (also not). This is so he can get ICE to kidnap citizens and disappear them without due process for the crime of being (checks notes)... not fascist.

A lovely piece. Moby-Dick is an amazing novel, and while the writer here is afraid to recommend it, I am not. It's hilarious, exciting, difficult, richly dark, sumptuous, insightful, and shockingly horrific. I wrote about it being a horror novel a while ago too:

Okay, so KEEPER had some unfortunate use of CG here and there, but that's about my only complaint. A movie where the theater really adds to the experience in a meaningful way. Both remarkably unsubtle and also quite reserved/measured, somehow? Probably my favorite Osgood Perkins film on the whole.

Like, I wasn't thrilled with LONGLEGS in the end, but it was a really fun theater experience and I still think Perkins is interesting. Got no money but I'm trying to find a way to justify seeing KEEPER tomorrow on opening day because boy howdy do I need to get the fuck out of my head a minute.

Man, late-stage capitalism is really, really ugly.

I mean, I write horror and every metaphor I can call up right now is like, "I'm sorry, kid. I got nothing."
