I am extremely disappointed in Birds Connect Seattle. Preventing ecosystem-destroying sprawl by letting people move to our cities instead of exurbs is the best thing we can do for our vulnerable bird populations.
Birds Connect Seattle, Thornton Creek Alliance, and the Orca Conservancy are among a lengthy list of groups trying to send City of Seattle back to the drawing board on its housing growth plan through a judicial appeal in state court.

It's annoying to see the hand-wringing over a small number of wealthy people making empty threats to move because of tax increases, when there are actually people leaving desirable places en masse because they can't find affordable places to live

A longtime Seattleite was recently telling me that you used to be able to grab day-of rush tickets to theater shows and concerts at the information booth at Pike Place, in the 90s. We should bring that back.

The mayor-elect of Seattle fucking Washington standing in a picket line for Starbucks workers hours after her victory speech. This rules so hard
It’s #SolidaritySeason and we’re joining @sbworkersunited.bsky.social baristas in their fight for a fair contract. Seattle’s newly elected mayor, Katie Wilson, joined our Seattle rally today to stand with workers, too.

when we were rallying support for our letter last spring, the most common comment we heard from market workers and residents by a wide margin was “it’s not safe like this.” i find it offensive when FotM and MHC dismiss these completely valid concerns out of hand.
Commission member Tom Graf says he was offended that the Mayor brought up the vehicle attack in New Orleans as a justification for adding hardening infrastructure at Pike Place Market. Graf says that what happened in NOLA was a larger issue.

This did in fact age well.
I think that local and state gov in my blue city & state matter even more now. I need Katie Wilson to run for mayor here in Seattle. Or someone with her grassroots organizing chops, record, and understanding of the legislative system here.

oh holy shit i didn’t realize these things are mutually exclusive, that’s crazy
After public comment, historical commission chair Jonathan Cracolici is picking apart a comment from Bruce Harrell about making Pike Place the best "pedestrian experience" in the county.
He says it should be the best "customer experience," because it's a market that's there for people to make money.

Eight months ago, Katie Wilson declared her intention to run and all the conventional powers-that-be said she didn't stand a chance of winning.

Remember that we don't always know what is possible.
Wilson now leads in the Seattle mayoral race by 91 votes. Prior to today, Harrell had been leading by 4,300 votes, but this latest vote batch netted Wilson 4,391 votes.

URGENT BOLLARD ALERT.

SDOT is going to the Pike Place Market Historical Commission next Wednesday to get initial guidance on the "physical protective barriers" planned ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

The board is getting its temperature taken on a "hybrid approach" of bollards and vehicle barricades.

Disappointingly, Pike Place has removed their outdoor seating. Hopefully they will restore it and put out some heaters. This street can contribute to the market thriving year round with thoughtful activation.

gOD, she’s good. and she’s right!! my heart swells with joy and HOPE when I think of Katie leading our city. harrell’s done plenty to piss me off, but this isn’t a lesser of two evils situation or an act of petty defiance. i cast my vote because i believe in katie wilson and i believe in seattle.
Most important, contra Westneat and Horsey, who seem to think this race is about grievance and anger: it’s really about hope. Hundreds of volunteers are out knocking on doors every week because they share our positive vision for Seattle's future. #ThisIsYOURCity
I guess we’re at the point in the campaign where pundits and consultants make excuses as to why their candidate is losing. 🧵
