That's what really impresses us, the tenuous, high wire feat of human hands bringing something magic together.

Or maybe people really will want to talk to robots, idk. /end

I'd always think to myself "Why don't you want to see the hands that made the things you love?" Because obviously as long as stuff is made by people it will be imperfect for a ton of reasons, that's what makes it so dazzling when it really works. As Perjurer gets at by the end, 8/

We're getting a little far afield now but I think a lot about how streaming gave way to those tumblr screenshots of Steven Universe characters off model or whatever, smears that look weird, the idea was like oh look they messed up it isn't perfect. And being old and working in animation 7/

Of the human end of the Character-Human interaction, I weirdly hadn't considered that the whole time!? I was sitting there thinking I'd like to go to the park full of Living Characters walking around but like, why? Why do I want to talk to a robot? 6/

RE: the video I'm so impressed with the consideration given to the human labour and decision making behind everything at the parks, and delighted to see some real attention paid to budgetary and legal realities that are often hand-waved away. I was also so interested in the question 5/

So effectively that I forgot about the Magic Bands and Disney and the ick face. The attraction eventually spawned some less exciting offshoots and ultimately closed but those 4 people working together must have been so proud sometimes. It made me miss my old studio jobs. 4/

and the description of the coordination between these people bringing it all together and the footage of Mickey gently adjusting a toddler's little ears made me cry. It looked so, so magic. I'm not a theme park person, I could not describe the personality of Mickey Mouse, it worked on me. 3/

Was a meet & greet where guests were having really impressive interactions with Mickey, the ones with little kids were especially sweet. The attraction iirc was the result of a performer, backstage handler, character escort (?) and photographer working in tandem 2/

There's this part about a talking Mickey Mouse head that went through a few iterations and the segment makes mention of the Magic Bands and various opportunities for what sounds to me like data harvesting/surveillance of little kids and I made an "ick" face. One of the uses of the head 1/

I'm already in a privileged position but the mental load this would lift for me, holy shit. What thoughts I could think!!!

I like it!

Ooooh I got BIG thoughts about this. I like this Drewscape video for explaining style as a storytelling choice, I think if I had illustration students I'd show them this.
