The open secret that Thomas King is not Indigenous at all is finally verified, and honestly it's a relief. Having him just confess this instead of going out kicking and screaming like so many before him causes a LOT less harm to Indigenous communities.

Thinking about a TPL event in 2016 celebrating King and Lee Maracle. The event's MC was Joseph Boyden, not long before he was outed.
The memory that sticks is the lineup for book signings afterwards. The ones for Boyden and King were many times the size of that for Maracle and it spoke volumes.

It's going to be a relief not to see Thomas King on the "Indigenous literature" shelf in the bookstores anymore though. Like, I understand that these places aren't going to act without some evidence, and that it's not their place to (unless they're Indigenous-run) but it's been a fucking thorn.
