Among other things, a problem we see with this approach in San Diego is that forcing a lot of workers in a big city to live 50 miles away from their jobs eventually turns their 60 minute commutes into 120 minute commutes because our roads get clogged with cars bsky.app/profile/knoc...
As a rural guy, I call 'living an hour away from where the jobs are' a typical Tuesday. And I understand that that is my choice. There are places I could move that would put me closer to places where there is work. I don't see anyone throwing a fit that I have an hour commute. Why is this different?
Right the dynamic here in San Diego is that you can live a perfectly normal middle-class life on $100k/year here... if you bought your house 15 years ago or otherwise have some sort of housing hookup like a subsidized BMR unit.

Do they get torn down and replaced with McMansions a lot? Because that's what happens frequently in some DC suburbs.

I think the setting is crass and exaggeratedly theatrical enough that it doesn't give off the same "quiet desperation" vibes of more subtle British comedies, and it's localized well enough that none of the characters sound like Ali G.

I think it's consistent with "avoid attacking human shields" to be very leery about making individual members of these Jewish congregations feel threatened, even if it's good to put pressure on the institutions

I think the term "human shield" is also apropos in this situation: Jewish congregations selling land in occupied territory are staging the war from a house of worship, which is wrong for the same reasons that Hamas lobbing mortars from a mosque rooftop is bad

I mean obviously a lot of like, 3D rendering doesn't require regional and cultural knowledge, but there are basically zero "tells" despite the unbelievable volume of writing and visual art that could let someone slip up and accidentally insert a Europeanism

The ACT UP protestors who created a huge ruckus in the NYC Catholic churches are an interesting case to compare here. IMO they look pretty strongly validated in hindsight, but it also helps that "anti Catholicism" is a basically trivial form of bigotry in the USA compared to antisemitism.
