The same people who spent yesterday, and the past five years, insisting a Black police officer who shot an insurrectionist breaking into the Capitol should be prosecuted are today bending over backwards to defend an ICE agent who shot a woman in her car in cold blood.

Scum.

America now has 935 billionaires with $8.1 trillion in collective wealth — a 20% increase from 2024.

Meanwhile, the bottom 50% of Americans control $4.2 trillion in wealth.

When 935 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

Grok Can't Apologize. Grok Isn't Sentient. So Why Do Headlines Keep Saying It Did?
Elon Musk’s chatbot has been “undressing” women and children in public. Journalists are letting xAI off the hook by pretending the bot is responsible.

Bad framing: ACIP voted to scrap the universal hepatitis B vaccine recommendation for newborns.

Accurate framing: Anti-vax conspiracy theorists appointed to ACIP by Robert Kennedy Jr., who made a fortune as an anti-vax profiteer, voted to expose babies to a preventable, incurable, deadly illness.

A very incomplete list of things we wouldn't have done if we waited for the normies to care:

- abolish slavery
- child labor laws
- votes for women
- social security
- fdic
- welfare
- medicare
- medicaid
- desegregation
- women's sports
"normies do not care about this thing and so it is no use raising a stink" is imho just an excuse for not doing politics, which is the job of making normies care about something

Trump's Paper Tiger Executive Actions Targeting Anti-fascism
Yesterday, Trump signed the National Security Presidential Memorandum 7 (NSPM-7). If you’ve read the text of it, you’re probably scared. That’s the point. The document is a masterclass in intimidation...

Meanwhile the sitting vice president talks about “Cultural Marxism” and “the Cathedral” and uses esoteric White Power jargon all the time but his language is not a liability
the reason this discourse will never end is because it is completely untethered from any kind of evidentiary standard. as long as there is a 19-year-old barista somewhere saying “cultural appropriation,” guys like nichols will complain that “democrats” use alienating language.
It would be a huge step forward for Democrats and for general clarity in political writing if these terms went away. These came mostly from academic hothouses.

In the event that we ever dig ourselves out of our current political mess, one of the first items on the agenda must be abolition of the DHS. Hopefully we can get FEMA out from under it before then.
Yet again, DHS is mirroring literal Nazi propaganda. In Nazi font, DHS says, "Save America." The actual Nazi poster on the right translates as, "A fight for Germany."

We are seven months in, and the speed with which vital civic institutions are capitulating to authoritarian demands we once would have regarded as inconceivable in an established liberal democracy is jawdropping. I hadn't thought I was polyannaish about America, but it's really stunning.

I remember in 2017 when @nytimes.com published an article on undocumented students at UC Merced, and not only posted their full names but included their dorm names and room numbers (which was not relevant).

I guess anonymity at the Times is only for white supremacists.

ICE is now funded like a large military, and it raids hospitals and clinics. Millions of immigrants, including legal residents, fear that seeking medical care will result in arrest, beatings, and separation from their families. We urgently need to build underground care systems.

Congress has had years to do something about data brokers and they've sided with the tech lobby over and over again.

Their inaction is deadly.

Really terrible timing for Dems to be collaborating with the GOP on a stablecoin bill while Trump and his family are putting out a stablecoin! This is going to hit the floor next week.
