I’m currently reworking some of my older pixel art animations and adapting them to the 9:16 format. With the T-Rex animation from 2015, I just couldn’t resist adding sound effects. You know … immersion and all that.

A bit off-topic, but I only recently stumbled across the syfy TV series “Dark Matter” (2015–2017). It completely flew under my radar. Great story, gritty vibe, shady characters - love it!

Finally tackled the upgrade system this weekend! Once you’ve collected enough coins, an overlay pops up with three random upgrades to choose from. The gameplay loop is pretty much done now! :)

Sawblades are always a good idea! Just lying in the middle of the path, moving back and forth like it’s the most natural thing in the world.

Maybe I’ll add one more obstacle, but I think I’m ready to start working on perks and upgrades.

Completely revamped the title font today. Went for something blockier and more readable - the old ornate version looked nice but had an awkward word layout. To be honest, the ridiculously long game title is to blame!

New enemy type! I actually wanted to make a simple up-and-down moving sawblade, but what came out instead is a bunny with supernatural jump power. It’s got sharp teeth, too - two of them.

My game has snails now. What you do with them is entirely up to you.
I also upgraded the HUD - speed is now shown in horsepower (hp).
The knight got a bit sportier … he can duck now, too.

My minigame now has classic coins! You’ll be able to trade them for upgrades later on - more stamina, extra power, a shield … you name it.

Switching from #Construct3 to #Godot was totally worth it. Rebuilt everything in just 4 days.

Godot feels super solid on the Silicon Mac and is way less complicated than I expected. I think I’ll stick with it!

Turns out the ZIP file from #ChatGPT just caused a crash - so, no Skynet (yet). #gamedev

Me - a total non-programmer - asked #ChatGPT to convert my current #Construct3 project into a #Godot project. One I could just open in Godot and hit play.

Now I’m staring at the screen, with a finished ZIP file in front of me.

Let’s hope Skynet wasn’t involved …

The end is near! Only one event left. Should I stick with Construct 3 and move to the paid version?

I do like Construct 3, but the event system feels a bit clunky at times. Plus, the scrolling in my game was pretty choppy.

Maybe I should give Godot a try before I decide …

Simple 3x5 pixelfont for HUD and other ingame stuff.

Tried making pixel fonts on the iPad with Pixquare - worked perfectly!

Sure, these fonts exist online already, but sometimes it’s just fun to make them yourself.

Another TrueType recreation of a C64 font – this time from Konami’s Yie Ar Kung-Fu. I recreated this charset with TypeTool 3, and unlike yesterday’s Gauntlet, it stays crisp even at 8 pt/px.
