eyo, if two expressions denote the same predicate then

registering some annoyance at the passage just before Brett's screenshot. One could tell a story where "To be F is to be G" usually implicates that being G is meant as an illuminating account of being F, but where that implicature gets defeated for "To be F is to be F" because it's obviously false.

I think? the paper is about identity criteria for predicates. he gives reflexivity and Leibniz's Law as axioms for identity. Then there's a lot of lambda stuff
November 25, 2025 at 4:36 PM
Leibniz's Law I guess? if two predicates are the same, then if you substitute one for another in a true sentence, that's also true

you're not the first one to think it, she did the Anthony Weiner thing of choosing the exactly wrong scandal for her name. but somehow nobody cares

I don't think "abstract portrait" is a complete oxymoron, but it conveys something like Nude Descending a Staircase

today's strip goes back in time and darkens up this one about Lois's body image issues. I remind you that she is that rail thin not long after giving birth

bsky.app/profile/matt...
When Hi & Lois is the top strip on a @jfruh.bsky.social post titled"Gloomy Sunday" I expect great things.. greater than "women be dieting." OK, OK, Lois can't sustain joy for three panels, these rail-thin women have body image problems, fine. 5/10 QDUs but my heart's not in it.

Lois tries to give Ditto an eating disorder. 😬 9/10 QDUs

(also at his age Ditto should probably be growing more than half an inch between checkups?)

I have this to say: I've seen this reported as an "abstract nude portrait" and that is not abstract! it is completely representational, it is just not realistic. words mean things!

she also lives on in the strip's canon, having jumped clear of the explosion and been arrested by Chief Patton

I think they really just see Israel as the center of their religion, and Israelis to be the real Jews or the completion of Judaism. Like the Reform rabbi lecturing young Jews about how tikkun olam doesn't mean they're allowed to protest Israel.

somewhere between 10/7 and today, an economic and ideological split happened where the largest donors to a bunch of Jewish community institutions decided that a tidal wave of antisemitism was coming, and also that antisemitism consists exclusively of antizionism. not even Holocaust denial counts.

two strips in a row with smiles on the same panel! may have to retire that bit. 4/10 QDUs because Lois is taking this very hard. also is the coffee very caffeinated or very spicy? I'm not up on my xxxxtreme coffee.

there *are* right-handed booksellers but they aren't the ones who do the monster-killing so they don't get much screen time
November 25, 2025 at 2:21 AM
I read Garth Nix's The Left-Handed Booksellers of London and on book two--two!--he had to resort to The Sinister Booksellers of Bath, which are incidentally the same booksellers who operate stores in multiple cities

okay Kelly I was going to say "You can't repeat a word in the title unless you do it in every title" and then I remembered these three Robin Hobb trilogies

Assassin's Apprentice
Royal Assassin
Assassin's Quest

Fool's Errand
The Golden Fool
Fool's Fate

there was a series of mysteries featuring Rabbi David Small that started with Friday The Rabbi Slept Late and the author was so screwed when he got to the eighth book

I seriously think that we shouldn't deport immigrants who have been convicted of serious crimes. If it's safe to let a citizen free in the US after they serve their sentence, it's safe to let an immigrant free in the US ditto.

However I would not suggest that a politician die on that hill.
