Meanwhile Robin Ince genuinely has been cancelled for daring to voice his opinions and for defending trans people.

Where's the outrage from the "cancel culture" lot?

What are the Free Speech Union doing to help him?
Robin Ince reveals to last night’s audience at a recording of Infinite Monkey Cage that the BBC has forced him to resign over his support of trans people

A winter flu surge.
A looming doctors’ strike.
A health system with no slack left.

This is neither bad luck nor a “perfect storm” - it’s exactly what will happen when resilience is treated as optional and difficult decisions are used to excuse incompetent ones.

A Saturday long read.
Saturday Long Read: The NHS is Collapsing and Labour is Running out of Excuses
A system shaved to the bone, a winter crisis already unfolding, and a government furious because the arithmetic no longer works.

Sold at a loss. They will make the money back on something else on the shop (bet toilet roll is 20p dearer this week!). Most of that would be grown on a contract so if they sell it at 8p or £5 farmer will usually get the same price whatever (it's never a great amount either!)

In the audience today at the amazing Niamos theatre in Manchester for the Christmas recording of Infinite Monkey Cage. Devastating news from @robinince.bsky.social - what must have been an incredibly difficult decision but absolutely the correct and humane one. Robin remains the best of us.

The BBC doesn’t own the copyright on you, a charismatic scientist and a panel of experts and comedians discussing science. The Cosmic Shambles network could do an iteration of Monkey Cage (with the serial numbers filed off) - you know plenty of scientists and comedians. Tie it to a Patreon/Ko-fi?

Not easy to get to sleep tonight - have burnt the bridge of whatever career I had left and really don’t feel that my opinions are so extreme that that should have been necessary
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

Watching old Christmas Gone Fishing on bbc2, Bob's just given Paul a vinyl recording of his mum singing and it absolutely captures why records still sell. There's something extraordinary about it, a weird connection that you just wouldn't get with a cd or MP3.

Farage's memory being 'fluid' again.
Farage just said “I didn’t wear a mask last time and I won’t wear them this time. This is nonsense.”

Here he is, not only wearing a mask, but also getting vaccinated…

Tories never change: peddling the lie that people on welfare are living great lives. I filled in my sister's PIP renewal last week and it's full of questions like how does she socialise or go on holiday to which I wanted to write "she doesn't leave the fucking house! She's unwell every single day!"
