Follow the thread down for an explainer on our recent piece - connecting delusions to overgeneralization of causal learning, and separating out referential beliefs as a particular problem with learning about absences
New from star grad student @m-meyer.bsky.social we wanted to study why delusions (and other beliefs) are so fixed. We turned to a generalization paradigm and the peak shift effect. Martin finds people with delusions over generalize causal relationships during learning: osf.io/preprints/ps...

Looking for something else, discovered that French philosophy doctoral defences were regularly listed in Les Études philosophiques. Here's Foucault's, which doesn't tell us anything we didn't know from Didier Eribon's biography, but was still interesting to see.

Good thread this - I think ultimately, so much is unknowable about 2029 that making your main aim 'what will play well politically there' is just an impossible task. Just gotta follow your theories about what will work best and hit and hope to an extent.
A very painful budget now, which sets up a path towards better budgets in 2026, 27 & 28, feels like a superior strategy to taking almost as much political pain now without the upside.
In short: focus on governing & the right policy and the politics (mostly) look after themselves. 3/3
