Next week I’ll be in Berlin for a European Digital Sovereignty Summit satellite event to help launch @eurosky.social.

So it's time to ask: what does #sovereignty look like in the #socialmedia space?

Reading an ode to #decentralisation as I travel to Berlin to talk about #sovereignty at #euroskylive2025

Big Tech "may have more power, but courage doesn’t scale with power. So now they act protective of their power, which means kowtowing to anyone who might try to take it away..."

It has been frustrating, to say the least, to watch many of the big Silicon Valley tech firms bow down to Trump and do his bidding, especially when it directly contradicts things they’ve said and done in the past. I’ve tried to explain to tech company execs why this doesn’t end well for them, but it seems it’s a lesson they’re going to have to learn from… what’s that they say…?

PSA: Please remember today's mute words, everyone.
my beloved girlfriend has an inexplicable attraction to grotesque, almost supernaturally weird old men. guys who look like the adults from a roald dahl story. fellas who act like they were perhaps recently animals turned human through some unnatural bargain with the fey. not me though

The "Lame Duck-a-Lago presidency" absolutely had to become a thing. The calls for proposals for the best hashtag and best meme are not open. Deadline: impeachment.
Autocracy has one flaw: it’s brittle. Those who cling to it are usually the last to know their time is up. Welcome to the Lame Duck-a-Lago presidency.

I'm learning so much, and getting so much, from this podcast. Highly recommended.
Rabble is investing grant funds to support developers and conferences that connect Bluesky, Mastodon, Nostr, and open protocol projects.

Mallory Knodel, Social Web Foundation executive director, says this coordination (& focus on community) is what leads to better tech.

Ep w/ @rabble.nz out now.

I stopped doing my "morning update from America" first post of the day a few weeks ago. Some Americans understandably mistook an Australian's sadness for a European, gloating.

This is sad, OK? Any humour is of a gallows variety.

The @ec.europa.eu's strategy for DMA success:

1. Tech monopolies must comply.
2. Industry must build alternatives.
3. Users must switch.

So, no plan for the Commission to actually do anything?

Europeans, please take note: that whole American "privatise profits, socialise costs" strategy doesn't work out great in the long run.
So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

I made a “how do you do, fellow kids?” joke to someone in their mid 20s who, it turns out, was too young to have heard of that meme.

So “how do you do, fellow kids?” is now an example of “how do you do, fellow kids?”

"Is that why you post there?" is the correct response.
Ben Shapiro tells Megyn Kelly that to avoid vile extremists like Nick Fuentes “the first thing people need to do is turn off X, which is poisoning brains and making people think not true things.” Yet, Shapiro continues to post there, often multiple times a day. youtu.be/tprng5mObQg?...
