I dabble in writing. I work with You Don’t Read Comics. I am also a loving single father of one chaotic young boy doing his best to get by. Him/he/his
YES. It’s absurd and I love it.

And it’s funny how Barclay’s neurodivergence is… not being that evil.

I love that they gave Mirror Riker little beard braids. It’s so absurd.

I’ve bought pre-assembled Gunpla at cheap prices to fix them up. It’s not the same as building, but I still get the delightful kit at the end. Like this GP-01Fv, which came with all the parts and stickers unapplied.

It’s just like the original movie poster!

I believe it’s part 2, with part 1 introducing the concepts and characters to one another.

They’re both some of the best weird Star Trek crossovers, right alongside the Trek/X-Men one.

Spoilers for the ending, but HOLY SHIT.

There’s a real balance to them that more recent reprints really lack.

I actually like using them for my other weird habit: coloring. When the paper’s right anyhow. It’s weird, but it’s nice to read them later on and know that I did that.

Thanks! I love the designs from 08th Team, so I’ve had a few that I’ve customized over the years.

The GM Sniper 1 being a solid color just turns me off, to be honest. I made a modified color scheme myself when I turned a Ground GM into one.

Uh, I don’t wanna be that guy, but The ‘Nam wasn’t GI Joe. This is issue 43’s cover (and would look amazing painted on a van), with that comic being an entirely different book called The ‘Nam. Hama did edit The ‘Nam, but he was not the writer.

Here’s the internal disc of #Tron. Rather than a rainbow mirror show like a #laserdisc, it’s a black vinyl disc that still has a rainbow effect in the right light.

I can see a bunch of scratches in the disc, so it’s never gonna plan even if I did have a player for it. Shame!

And, uh, that’s it!
November 26, 2025 at 1:43 AM
Each disc genuinely held an hour per side, so longer movies were two of these stupid things or were edited. Most players made you get up in the middle of the movie, pull out the cartridge, and then shove it back in flipped upside down.

Also, when was #Tron red.

The other weird disc based media I have is #Tron! On RCA’s selectavison! It used actual vinyl records to transmit video through a similar setup to a record player, but was incredibly fiddly and required no man ever touch the disc or it be fucked up forever. So it gets held in a cartridge.

The back shows that it’s 60 minutes long (double the previous two SG #Gundam lengths), but the front advertises *just* SD Gundam Mk.1. This makes me think they slapped the covers on the sleeve where they could and it’s just a foreign release of SD Gundam Mk.I. Still interesting though!

Now… this one is weird. It was opened (way to notice, me), and actually is a dual language Cantonese/Japanese disc from HK. It’s called SD Gundam BB Warrior (matching a #gunpla line at the time), and has the cover art for SD Gundam Mk.4 used (the legendary Wacky Races adventure)

Thankfully also no disc rot, though that’s a weird picture. Not sure why the paper slip is a different type of paper either. Also the disc is one sided! That’s a first for me in this case.

And SD #Gundam Mk.2! The second OVA, which came out later in the year. This one featured the first time Gundam played with their characters in a sword and sorcery setting, via Gundam Legend. More bonkers antics, and still only a half hour’s content for $78!
November 26, 2025 at 1:22 AM
While not as fancy, the OVA has a paper insert to talk about a manga coming out, and there’s also no disc rot here either. Lucky!

Now for the original #laserdisc release of SD Gundam, the original OVA released in the 90s. The paper insert says it was about 78 bucks, and advertises the three episodes inside.

I really love this absurd OVA series.

Aaaaaand no disc rot! Amazing. Wonder if I should find the kind of frame that also displays the disc as well.

It looks like there’s also an insert that appears to be an ad for F91, and a summary or overview of the Char’s Counterattack movie. Love me some honest English, and the art is lovely.
November 26, 2025 at 1:02 AM
Mainly because I want to hang this beauty up in a frame. I’m sure someone’s scanned this before me, but I can always find a good document scanner to do so.

This guy came out as part of a Festival of Gundam promo, and was about 60 USD at the time.

I’ve had these in my collection forever (roughly 2008). They’ve been literally unopened, and I bought them before HD was a thing. When Laserdisc was (maybe) the best possible way to watch a movie due to how DVD wasn’t quite as high resolution and CRTs thrived.

I’m gonna open ‘em.

I mean, dark has a place in family friendly.

But maybe we avoid resurrecting Grand Prince Sex Pest.
