Getting a letter from Dad and knowing he was alive and well was the best thing of all. Blitz One Family's War tells the moving story of a family living in the East End of London during WW2. It is told from the perspective and memories of a brother and sister who watched their ordinary world change around them. From the outbreak of the war to waving their father off to fight the Nazis, to their relentless nightly runs to the air raid shelters and wondering if their home would still be there in the morning. With 247 glorious illustrations this book celebrates the stoic, camaraderie of the people from the many cities in those dark days who kept calm and carried on. A relevant, important poignant book with relatable images of children and adults with a message of resilience and hope. Cover wrap IS an actual German map showing all the locations (at that time) that had been bombed by the German Lufiwaffe. Given to the author by German Navy Commander while researching his books. Author Martin Impey comments: "Blitz One Family's War is inspired by my childhood stories, growing up with tales of how my Grandparents house in Bow, the heart of London's East End was destroyed by German bombs during - what later became known as 'The Blitz'. My father was born there, and it was a very tight community with grandparents, aunts & uncle's all living within a few streets of each other. Although Bitz One Family's War is a story of fiction, It resembles many details shared during those happy days listening to my grandparents' wartime experiences. I hope it will be a valuable aid to parents and teachers to pick out talking points and details that will inspire further learning. Author information: Martin Impey is an award-winning illustrator of more than 50 books. He has worked in many fields of creativity over a professional career spanning more than 30 years. He has twice been nominated for the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal.
