A little bit of a lot of things, not much of anything. Bad software engineer, half-assed philosopher, theoretical woodworker, monoglot linguist. Rural France via Seattle via the Southwest via the actual South (Australia, specifically). Nerd.

Spouse: Look, all of the nice smelling Christmas candles are out!

Me: We can get a few, but let’s not go overboard. Scents and sensibility.

Spouse: No.

Defying no stereotypes for my age, education, and ethnicity, I'm excited to pick up the new translation of Suetonius' The Twelve Ceasars the next time I'm in London.

After six months of our kitchen/laundry drain backing up and needing me to snake it, this morning these chunks (among several others) came out. That's about a 1.5cm buildup in a 6cm pipe, so a 75% reduction in drainage even when it wasn't blocked outright. Hoping this solves the problem.

Just got a “Time Sensitive” email at work that uses “ask” as a noun, drops four new three letter acronyms I’ve never seen before and references a tool with an opaque name that I also have never heard of.

After five minutes of clicking links I’m pretty sure I can just ignore it.

Just saw a chap on Pointless who was both vegan and had a sense of humor about being vegan, and I suspect he might be the Kwisatz Haderach.

Coming up on my second year as a manager at a big tech company, I’m realizing my real strength is canceling meetings I don’t want to prepare for.

I still smile every time I get the email at work reminding me that in order to comply with Working Time Laws I *must* take 25 more days of vacation this calendar year. Also that I have a legal duty to not read work email outside of working hours.

Reskeet how old you are, using a vague proxy.

When I was 16, you could get three tacos for a dollar at Taco Bell.

When I was 19, swimming was banned at the beach where I was a lifeguard because medical waste was washing up onshore. It made national news and popped up in We Didn’t Start The Fire.

When I was 15, I was working in France for the summer, and listening to the radio I thought I heard that a president had resigned, but my French wasn't too good.

@astrokatie.com I'm really enjoying The Universe podcast and just finished episode 2. I have a question!

How do we know the Higgs field value is (currently) universally constant?

Or, put another way, is there anything we've observed that could be explained by variances in the Higgs field value?
