It's going to be incredibly tricky to fix things without destroying the Constitution while doing it. GOP Congress would love to pass unreviewable laws.
I'd say, start with the most important problem. You want something unreviewable when you don't trust SCOTUS. Fix that.
If there is a Dem Congress and President, I think the best route is much simpler. Congress can pass, and the President sign, ordinary legislation declaring that Trump's pardons are void, and then strip courts' jurisdiction to review. And then send the cops to get them.
Mass pardons are coming. There will be no accountability without treating those as null and void. And that means a future administration taking an official position that Trump is not the legitimate president right now because he is disqualified by the 14th Amendment. The two things are inextricable.

Today I watched The Return of Doctor X, a 1939 63 minute b or c movie with Humphrey Bogart in a lead role. And that, friends, is why the studio system had to die.
There was no reason for Bogart, who was already a star, to appear in this dreck, and I wouldn't have watched it if Bogart wasn't in it.

GOP Speaker really is a terrible job, ask any past GOP Speaker, and see their bodies strewn about the Capitol building.
Yet they do seek the job voluntarily.

Paul’s at the forefront of American housing policy. Tying together YIMBYism, public finance, and public development, he’s building *the model* for American social housing.

Now he’s been appointed to Zohran’s Transition Committee on Housing. We at @publicenterprise.bsky.social couldn’t be prouder!

In my day, courting involved dancing skyclad under a full moon, burnt blood offerings, and—this is truly the worst one—you had to talk to people on the landline

Like, cables ran THROUGH THE EARTH, all manner of demonic voices came out & you were just supposed to say, “hi! this is Kerry speaking!”
My favorite piece of content today.

And he keeps deporting workers from jobs US citizens won't do, like agriculture and meatpacking, which seem designed to raise prices.
By the way, mass deportation causes rising prices in the United States.

This is because it removes a crucial ingredient of production in key sectors like food and construction, without reducing demand much.

Sane demand chasing reduced supply —> higher prices. @piie.com analysis here:
Trump’s deportation plans would cause lower US employment and GDP than otherwise
Former president Donald Trump has promised to carry out the "largest deportation program in American history," a step targeting unauthorized immigrants and endorsed in the Republican Party's 2024 plat...

This made me remember from yesterday that I can't forget that David Remnick fired Ryan Lizza I should find out why.
So just tried, and the NYer decided based on some sexual impropriety, but they are being all closed-mouth about it to protect the injured party, while Lizza is being pugnacious about +

Xi isn't an economist, but a decent engineer is fully capable of understanding how bad deflation is, if it's explained. If no one feels safe spending a couple of minutes to do that, China is in worse shape than I thought.
We're all doomed bc no one can explain anything to any country's autocrat.

1920s juries were not taken to crime scenes and so the murder scene of Emily Kaye in an Eastbourne bungalow was brought to them in 1924 thanks to the craft skills of PC Edward Er Onan Shelah (1890-1962) at Brixton Police Station. #CM150 #Museum30 #making #truecrime

You can't solve misinformation in the marketplace of ideas is the heart of it in one way of looking at it. More speech won't solve the problem at all.
A really important point. You can't "solve"misinformation without understanding the ways beliefs function as identity markers more than attempts to represent reality accurately gone awry.
Misinformation *is* central to democratic problems today, but the solution is *not* to correct such epistemic failures directly. Instead, we must address them at their roots, in social identity.

Or so I argue in a new post for @apaphilosophy.bsky.social.

Uggh, Tidal has decided I love show tunes more than anything. Lie. I like good to great musicals in their entirety, not individual tunes. I do deep dives where I listen to every version of say Chicago, so I listen to a lot of Chicago for a while. +

One way of looking at a lot of what Trump is doing is that he's revived the line item veto.
The Supreme Court ruled in Clinton v City of NY that Congress could not by law give that power to the president. A case I worked on in me youth.
But they have not ruled on whether he can just take the power.

Watching Rosemary's Baby, which reminds us that Horror in NYC is always about real estate. As big a theme of the movie as that pregnancy is the taking over of your body if not by an alien, then by alienation.
Mia Farrow is constructed of twigs.
Cassavetes would do anything to make another movie.

What we need is for every Dem governor to do this, first so Trump doesn't have two clear targets, and second to make Newsom not appear remarkable.
He's not a thin, handsome Pritzker folks, he just plays one on TV.
Gavin Newsom: “All this anti-woke stuff is just anti-Black, period, full stop.”

I was dreaming last night that women, instead of two breasts on their chest had four or six, lower down on their bellies, like my dogs.
I could definitely illustrate that with ai's help, but it really is better if you imagine it yourself. Where "better" in this case means much worse.
