I'm just some guy in Cleveland.
This guy owns BlueSky now. Not my fault. I seriously do not make the rules.
I'm sorry the guy changing the rules on the fly is named what
I stand with County Executive Calvin Ball as he signs emergency legislation today prohibiting privately owned buildings from being used as ICE detention centers.

Howard County chose dignity, accountability, and its people. Tune into our event now:

Immigration is a fake problem. People come to the US for work when there are jobs for them. People come to the US for refuge when they have to.
Immigration is a fake problem. We have politicians on the one hand who want to use immigrants as scapegoats for our real ones and politicians on the other who are too cowardly to stand against them and tell the truth. That is the entire situation. Until that changes, people will continue to die.

The University of Arkansas's law school just withdrew the appointment of its new dean six days after hiring her because conservative politicians complained that she filed an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in support of transgender students
Culture warriors cancel new U of A law dean before she started - Arkansas Times
Culture warriors claim the scalp of Emily Suski, the would-be law school dean whose legal opinion on transgender athletes seems to have offended Arkansas officials.

Cleveland is 3½ years into a ten-year plan to install "low cost quick build safety improvements at high-injury locations" as a "high priority" and has delivered a few curb bumpouts.

Zohran got this bike lane fixed in SIX DAYS.
Zohran just went out and fixed the Williamsburg Bridge bike entrance. Just did it. No faffing, no nonsense. Bam. Fixed.

Oh wow you were forced to apologize for being white. How did you phrase your apology? Where were you? Who demanded it of you, and what law compelled you? Was it a local ordinance? State level? Was it court-mandated? Tell me more about this apology you made for being white.

A) You ordered your people to murder someone and they did it.
B) You run an organization in which everyone knows you wanted someone to be murdered, and it was carried out.

If I'm your lawyer or juror, I will work hard to distinguish A from B.

I am neither your lawyer nor your juror.

It is irresponsible to repeatedly believe people who are obviously full of shit.
I'll go further and say we need "It is irresponsible to repeatedly believe people who are obviously full of shit" to apply to voters as well. The "flood the zone with shit" people aren't winning with any specific bit of misinfo, but create a *permission structure* for believing it

I remember when Cleveland cops teargassed a peaceful crowd after falsely claiming the crowd had *set the Justice Center on fire* and was in the midst of breaking people out of the onsite jail.

They faced no consequences at all for the lies and unprovoked violence.
THREAD: Judge Ellis is the first federal judge to review extensive body cam video of DHS's actions in Chicago. She finds that DHS *repeatedly* misled the public and made claims that were disproven by agents' own videos.

I'll go through some of the most egregious ones here.

It’s pretty simple.

When you do a huge armed midnight raid on an apartment building rounding up and terrorizing children and later find out there were no criminals there everyone involved resigns in shame and we have loud showy Congressional hearings.

I wrote about why the regrettable conclusions of Ezra Klein pissed me off so badly in the last couple weeks.

Now is the best time, maybe ever, to learn the history of racism. This article on a brilliant new new effort to surface the racist 'relay' school policy in Cleveland is outstanding.

You know what's not mentioned in the article even once?

Meetings.
Grant proposals.
Strategic plans.

Helsinki DID THE THING instead of talking about the thing.

Cleveland is doing its first "quick build street improvements" now, 2½ years into its ten-year Vision Zero plan.

#nomoremeetings
“Helsinki has not recorded a single traffic fatality in the past 12 months, city and police officials confirmed this week.”

City engineer credits lower speed limits and smart design.

I agree. #Helsinki #VisionZero
Helsinki goes a full year without a traffic death
A city traffic engineer credits the success to lower speed limits and smarter design.

Notably not on the list: big real estate projects.

Cleveland take note. Social problems call for social solutions.
