Here’s a radical idea. Start making our public system work. Use the precious resources we devote wisely.

How? This is not an “ideas” problem, a “public vs. private” problem, a “funding” problem or, as our govt view it, a “communications” problem.

This is a management problem.
Happy to see they published this. Govt needs to be reminded people expect more and that lies and misinformation shouldn't be okay.

Op ed: Our health-care system should focus on results www.timescolonist.com/opinion/comm...
A hybrid system with a functioning public tier is worth considering. That's NOT what we're talking about here.

If there's no floor on public system performance (access to ER's, primary care, other basic services), we don't have a health system. We have a fucking lottery.

Step 1. Remove all metrics from public system that would allow tracking effectiveness. ✔️

Step 2. Replace with cherry-picked political spin. ✔️

Step 3. Migrate workforce away from public system.

Step 4. Claim no evidence that public system was hurt from loss of resources.

Our health "system" is largely built on individual docs and other health practitioners doing their own thing.

That may have worked when most weren't burned out, there were adequate resources, and they could devote the needed time to patients.

Time to admit that day has passed?

BC’s recent report into its administration of FOI laws shows that requests for general govt records has dropped below a third of what it was five years ago.

The lesson of history is that tyrants cannot be appeased.

Appeasement only feeds their insatiable hunger for power.

Tyrants prey on people who feel unsafe and vulnerable.

But without mass submission, a tyrant is powerless.

Remember this.

What establishment Dems tried to do to Mamdani, the BC NDP successfully did to Anjali Appadurai.
She was poised to win the leadership race by actually getting people to join the party. The old guard didn't like that, so they crushed the next generation to maintain their grip on power.

Every. Single. Time I criticize the feds on health care someone shows up in my mentions to remind me of this basic fact about the industry in which I work.

Why the apologetics? Being loud about health care is the ONLY way we get anything done.

Government data on Health Connect Registry (wait list to be attached to family doctor or nurse practitioner) across the province.

In some areas, virtually everyone who wants to be is attached. Others have tens of thousands waiting… often for years.

Latest CIHI data for same/next day access to a health provider.

While the numbers are not good anywhere, BC scores lowest in the country for both adults and children/youth.

Why are there no nurses available to staff ERs?

Well, many have ended up at UPCCs. Far more than we need. Far more nurses than primary care providers.

Nursing spending nearly doubled(!) from 2023-2024, outpacing all other areas.

Best use of a scarce resource?

We're into another @doctorsofbc.bsky.social
election period.

Will we continue the current approach, where the GOVERNMENT provides 2/3 of the funding for this "member-funded society"?

More than likely.

BC physicians seem ok that govt has control of the organization that represents them.

So disheartening seeing patients who've been struggling with mental health problems for > 10 years, seen multiple psychiatrists, and put on numerous psychotropic medications.

But had their ferritin checked twice (both times low), B12 only once, and Vit D not at all.
November 1, 2025 at 5:13 PM
Say you're the BC government or Fraser Health. ER wait times at some of your hospitals are just becoming too embarrassing. What do you do about it?

Do you work to fix the problem, work with staff, and reduce wait times?

Or do you just stop reporting the wait times altogether?

It increasingly feels like the Canadian electorate was tricked.

Health care is a consistently high voter priority. Kicking it down to the provinces after breaking the promises made in a federal election is shady af behaviour.
