"Every economic metric does in fact show that the economy is improving"

And by “the economy” we mean “the net worth of the upper 1%.”

Is the antifa in the room with you right now?

Don't worry, it is a self-correcting problem. Once Hegseth puts AI in charge of destroying domestic terrorists, no one will leave their houses every again and there will be no more gridlock.

Well if they didn't want ambiguity the could have named it the International Anti-Criminal Court. Surely the president can be forgiven for trying to be an International Criminal President to impress them.

The threat is that Big AI can supply it to schools as a reference tool because it allows them to collect data to train their models now that they’ve scraped the internet and face model collapse. We need a consortium to develop *closed* tools for translation, reference & editing so we can avoid that.

It looks that way from the US too, it is just that it is our neighbors doing so.

There is contempt of court, and there is contempt for the justice system. This is a strange amalgam of both.

Not implausible, though. There was always something odd about that Iwo Jima story, especially in light of the opposite course of action being taken in the strike now all over the news.

Look, I was in the lie business then. It's a craft you and I love but I had to take another position. I'll be back. Don't worry.

Yes. “You do not execute survivors who are clinging onto a side of a ship.” Why? Because they pose no threat to you. They didn't even pose a threat to you when you blew up their boat. Extrajudicial killings, like extrajudicial kidnapping and imprisonment, are simply illegal.
December 2, 2025 at 2:33 PM
Exactly. They are all extrajudicial executions! First one, last one, initial victims, survivors… Hegseth and the admiral in charge both need to be tried for murder.

Are you getting this mixed up with the piece in the Atlantic? it Isn’t a puff piece, it is simply trying to do an ethnography of denialists and explain where they are coming from. Seems like a useful piece of data If you want to stop these diseases from resurfacing.

It is also heartbreaking that many of the parents of these children are so deep in conspiracy land that they blame the hospitals not the lack of vaccines for their childrens' deaths. This op-ed begins with one such story:

I admit, in college I knew nothing about the White Terror until I watched 悲情城市 in Taibei when it first came out. I get what you’re saying — that Taiwan was never voluntarily part of a political “China”. But Qing is not just the Manchus but also most of the Sinosphere of the time, hence “China.”
November 25, 2025 at 7:57 PM
Stop ignoring the fact that “China” can refer to a cultural or a political entity. You want to define it politically only, and in a way that suits your politics, which is fine. but then accusing anyone who tries to be nuanced about that distinction of being a PRC shill is childish.
November 25, 2025 at 7:38 PM
The original post was that Taiwan was never part of China. I was trying to disentangle "cultural China" from "political" Chinas.

I disagree that China during the Qing was not China. And the many Taiwanese who died during the occupation might disagree that the Japanese "legitimately" owned Taiwan.
November 24, 2025 at 10:54 PM
It was part of the Qing, and then it was part of the ROC after Japanese occupation, until it became the ROC. But if by China you mean the PRC, that’s certainly right.
