This is a great read, and talks about different frames the media uses to report on protests.

“…according to the study, that “annoyance” framing increased over time — newspapers were more likely to frame a protest as a nuisance in 2007 than in 1967.”

New in PN: Scenes from Portland's imaginary insurrection

"I’ve been taking images that are nowhere near this one conflict driveway — ones of puppies & kids playing, & families having picnics — b/c the idea that Portland is burned down & a war zone is just preposterous" — @timdickinson.bsky.social

🆕 : As federal funding faces threats, state and local finance is taking on new significance.

In a new brief, Oskar Dye-Furstenberg explains how the municipal bond market works, its limitations, and potential reforms.

Image of a person sitting on a train looking out the window, next to a quote from the Roosevelt Institute “While the municipal bond market is a core tool of financing public infrastructure, progressives ought to be attentive to its limitations and adverse consequences. Discussing the preferential tax treatment of municipal bonds, Franklin D. Roosevelt declared that ‘a fair and effective income tax and a huge perpetual reserve of tax-exempt bonds cannot exist side by side.’” from the article titled 'Financing State and Local Investment: Uses and Limitations of the Municipal Bond Market.'

When Trump says he’s cutting “democratic programs”, he’s referring to the ACA, SNAP, Medicare, Medicaid, social security…

His pitch to the base is, “I’m taking things you depend on because they were championed by people you don’t like…and giving you nothing from the people you do like.”

Winning.

The suggested price for consumers will be no more than $55 for a pack of five pens.

Currently even generic insulin typically costs about $260 for a pack of five.

Every day that Republicans keep the government shut down sends a clear message.

The GOP would rather fight tooth and nail to give billionaires a handout than save health care and lower costs for working families.
