And I believe the simile was *raspberry*?
November 25, 2025 at 11:40 PM
Just say Heinlein, this is taking forever.
November 25, 2025 at 11:40 PM
* specifically, the same people who liked/like UKIP/BXP/Reform liked the BNP - so you're looking at the ~same** type of party - but from a much lower baseline

** bit more to the Economic Left - ironically, the area in which so many people declared would doom any party to success
November 25, 2025 at 9:41 PM
And "just how racist is Nigel Farage?" is an important question because the difference in electoral support* between the BNP and UKIP/BXP/Reform does turn heavily on that.
November 25, 2025 at 9:41 PM
Anyone else could say "Yeah, I did stuff I'm not proud of when I was a kid, but I repudiated that in adulthood - look at my record!".

Farage's issue is that people will then consider that his record ... doesn't repudiate that.
November 25, 2025 at 9:41 PM
I don't think that is the implication.

The issue isn't "indicting someone based on past behaviour" - the issue is that it draws attention back to current behaviour.

Wikis say they increase faith production by 10%, but I don't see any increase in aggregate data when a new one opens - reckon it's bugged.

Americans, yes, as Brit I of course knew this.

Do you think other women should not feel able to object that?

Why are you only concerned with the freedom of one of these women - specifically, the one with the position held more by men than women?
November 25, 2025 at 6:34 PM
But surely you can see that this line is in obvious tension with politeness *and* reality.

As in, this position held by significantly more men than women - what's the (inoffensive/credible) logic by which men are better informed/motivated by "women's rights"?
November 25, 2025 at 6:24 PM
> I start from the standpoint that women's rights should be
> protected.

Had a look at your replies in this thread and I can see you obviously putting some effort into trying to state your position straight-forwardly *and* 'civilly'.

Nice to see a Third (Child) Way in chart form.

"I hate hate hate officious centralisation. Also, how dare individuals do things without it adhering to an ironclad global law that all must submit to?"
November 25, 2025 at 4:48 PM
One of the stupidest things about these arguments is that the premise is always garbage.

What "blanket cancellation" can one infer ...

... from Brighton?

You *can*, in fact, comment on the actions of Brighton without imagining a world where the entire globe is forced to move in lockstep.
November 25, 2025 at 4:45 PM
Specifically, to force screenwriters not to milk a concept to death.

Of course, you can have ironic situations like B5 where it *was* already plotted out at a reasonable tempo - then they got cancelled and had to shift to overdrive - then it got uncancelled screwing up the tempo again.
November 25, 2025 at 4:42 PM
I'm surprisingly partial to cancellations - ideally of the Dollhouse style where you get advance warning and a season (ideally the second) to finish up the concept.
November 25, 2025 at 4:40 PM
Knowing Where Your Plot Is Going really matters if you get more than 1 season.
November 25, 2025 at 4:06 PM
I think it predates social media, but certainly there's a cognitive pressure to amalgamate people multiple people into groups.

Most obviously in the "incoherence through composition".

> "You People are always saying it's Too Cold *and* Too Hot"

"Are you maybe talking about two different ppl?"
November 25, 2025 at 2:46 PM
> Though I guess all of history disproves this…

Yes. All of it, but some recent bits very hard.

See also "if only trade union links to social democrat parties were stronger".
November 25, 2025 at 2:41 PM
Tldr; if you were a Catholic you had one whole extra party dedicated to representing you competing for your vote.
November 25, 2025 at 2:39 PM
So I don't think they were *inherently* anti-Nazi but they were a narrow minority of the population and they had their own party.

Part of the background for the (domestic) Nazi period is that Germany was a new state and a newer democracy and religious tensions were significant.

Facebook has been ~unusable - literally, barely responsive to mouse clicks - to me for a couple of years now because it seems (have not been motivated to really check) to lock up in the presence of adblockers.
November 25, 2025 at 12:32 PM
But when you compare latent/like support for the BNP/UKIP you get two profile identical in dependence on Lib-Auth position ... but the BNP is just lower for everyone.
