Brexit costs the government around £90bn.
Without Brexit we could have tax cuts and spending increases. We would have hope & optimism, not gloom & despair.

7 x 3000+ students + 17 smaller institutions must mean 30,000+ affected students. That’s about the same size as Sheffield uni, which employs 8000ish staff. Why is the government tolerating the impending collapse of up to 24 related employers and 8000+ more lost jobs? Where is the sense of crisis?
Chief exec of OfS 'said the OfS believes there are 24 institutions at risk of exiting the market in the next 12 months, seven of which are large providers with more than 3,000 students. There are another 25 or so institutions of various sizes at risk over a two- to three-year period, she added.'

Ok President Trump, if you sue the BBC for $1bn for spreading lies, I’ll sue you for the same amount. I reckon Planet Earth would crowdfund that. Then I’ll buy Mar A Largo, turn it into a climate change research centre, free Melania, and put a 1000% tariff on orange face paint.

My late friend & fellow @newscientist.com consultant, Frank Lesser, fought the fascists at Cable Street. He was Jewish. Not sure what he would have made of Israel rolling out the red carpet for Tommy Robinson, an actual fascist, especially as he also fought the fascists in Spain.

42 years ago I had my first job in a library. After 35 years at Swansea University I have finished my last working day in my research support role. I am officially 'withdrawn from stock' like so many others in the sector. I have made great friends and had ace colleagues. From analogue to AI!

I came across two bee hives in the woods today. Being nosey and not afraid of bees at all, having introduced myself, 'Hello Bees' I had a good look from a foot away. One of the drones took a dislike to me and got tangled in my hair. As it stung me right on the top of my head, ouch, I felt alive!
