Egypt was the seat of an ancient civilization, and today's Egyptians increasingly celebrate it. But the pharaohs were not Muslims — and, for some, that is a problem, writes @maegdi.bsky.social
How Egypt's Heritage Became a Political Battle
Islamic, Pharaonic or both? That's the dilemma facing Egyptians as they look to the past for a new sense of national identity.

When an immigration agent shot a man in the leg last month in Minnesota, the Trump administration rushed to sell a version of events that demonized the wounded man. It was the latest instance of the U.S. government providing an account of a shooting that later proved questionable or outright wrong.
How ICE Failed to Justify the Shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis in Minneapolis
The collapse of the Trump administration’s version of events in the case was only the most recent instance in which officials gave an account of a shooting that was later contradicted.

Democrats' demand that Stephen Miller is fired as a condition of voting for ICE funding is one of the smartest moves they've made under Trump.

Miller is a loathsome figure who I imagine has rock-bottom likability numbers. Democrats should try to raise his public salience as often as possible.

Farage fawned over Trump for a decade. Begged to sit at his dining table and ride in his gold lift. Played the presidential tribute to him as his LBC intro. Said he'd be great for Brexit.

Trump’s reign was never in Britain's interests.

But Farage didn't care because it flattered his fragile ego.

Danish intelligence accuses US of using economic power to ‘assert its will’ over allies.

Danes have it right. The US is not a reliable ally. It is using tariffs & military threats to secure dominance.

Europe needs closer economic & military cooperation.

Breaking the tax pledge is the right call...and politically sulphurous. Reeves must argue, far more forcefully, that taxes are *the* essential downpayment we all pay for a fairer society.

If Labour want a fairer society, they must argue for it
Labour must make the political argument: taxes are the critical downpayment we all pay to live in a fairer society.  It now seems all but certain that direct taxes will rise in the forthcoming Budget...
