What is any socioeconomic justification for the investment in “AI” that isn’t sadistic or misguided?
January 30, 2026 at 4:33 PM
What, if anything, is referred to as “AI” that is not an LLM?

If anything, in what context is that version of the term “AI” used?

Daily, I find myself frustrated about how poorly-defined the term “A.I.” is and the way it degrades our culture & society. Anyone who is “hopeful in the promise of AI” is misguided or not a critical thinker IMO. Give me a counter argument, please!

You ever think about how badly the Democrats missed the moment by putting up Biden/Harris? It hurts to watch these days. I want off this ride!

I don’t know who needs to hear this but there’s a chicken finger chain in Alabama called “Foo Sackly’s”

I am from Texas so I know religious MAGA people and when meaningful topics come up I find myself so baffled at their worldviews. Wild things

The tech industry newsletters: “how to get people to use more data to see any ROI on a data center whatsoever” / “how to make people less AI-pessimistic”

Or maybe these things don’t actually generate revenue? 🤔

People in tech (e.g Andrew Ng) talk about “A.I.” in such a braindead way.

“We will fall behind if we don’t get average folks more eager to adopt”, “China sees advantages, why don’t we?” ask WHY? What benefits does the tech provide to everyday Americans? How is our society structured? Who benefits?

It’s a lot easier to be against things in politics than to be for things. And I respect when people are for things that use political power to make society better.

I would love it if @davidjroth.bsky.social was a permanent 3rd mic on @chapotraphouse.bsky.social … most recent episode was so funny/good. Helps to laugh thru the bullshit

But who the fuck is counting?
RFK Jr: "Today the average teenager in this country has 50% of the sperm count, 50% of the testosterone of a 65 year old man. Our girls are hitting puberty 6 years early ... our parents aren't having children."

Reading about this brought to mind a piece I wrote two years ago, inspired by one of my favourite authors.

Ursula K. Le Guin emphasized that there’s a big difference “between production of a market commodity and the practice of an art.” OpenAI’s AI-generated movie offers us nothing.

I’ve been listening to @thedigradio.bsky.social episode on “Abundance” and its fallout, and while I’m no politico or anything, I can’t help but have some tangential thoughts about “what does government do in practice? What should government do?” basic things like that…

Drove past DC area on a road trip last winter and can attest, craziest traffic I saw across 12 states
According to Consumer Affairs, the DC area has dethroned Los Angeles for having the worst traffic in the nation. They say the DMV's average commute time is now 33.4 minutes vs. 30.5 in Los Angeles. In 2024 DC was number 2.
