Rephrasing “birthrates are dropping” (sounds dehumanizing and vaguely eugenicist) to “we must build a world people want to bring a child into” (inspirational, addressing the root problem)
I’m gonna say it: it’s stupid how psychotic people get when birthrates are discussed. If you scream at and shout down anyone who isn’t a handmaids tale type when the subject comes up, then the policy space is going to be dominated by them, for what’s clearly going to be a consequential issue.

Remembering the late Jeffrey Catherine Jones, born on this date in 1944, who in a better timeline would still be with us. When I was a freshman at SUNY Buffalo in 1973, I crossed the border for the first time to attend a Toronto CosmicCon where I bought this remarkable piece from her — for $20.00.
