This is also from the JP Morgan filing. Framing Epstein’s operation as a “sex-themed cult” is a good descriptor, I think. I haven’t seen it elsewhere, laid out quite like this.

This is sinister. If you're wondering why so many people don't report sexual assault, this is why.
jesus the Palm Beach Police really sought arrest warrants against underage Epstein victims for coming forward and cooperating, and (purported) admitting to crimes, and it caused the victims to become uncooperative with the federal investigation

Daskalakis thinks that the Renaissance can come from the local level (which is where he is now working in New York).
But he also acknolwedges that even if that works it probably means more inequity across US states in the future...

I asked him if that was not defeatist, just giving up. He thinks it's the exact opposite, "more of a message of hope than a message of despair. Because we can do something even underground and imperfectly to be ready for when the time comes to fix this disaster."

His analogy is that public health has built a temple, an Acropolis, but that will be destroyed. "You don't try to go back and put a scaffold around the Acropolis to fix it. You build the Sistine Chapel. So my advice is detachment from from Legacy organizations that are going to be destroyed."

His advice is to look beyond the now:
"If you have political will that is designed to destroy and they have the power to destroy, it is almost futile to try to push against the destruction. Instead, you have to get through the dark age by sort of deciding what the Renaissance is going to look like"

Daskalakis resigned 20 days after the shooting, when it became clear to him (with the firing of CDC director Susan Monarez) that he would have little power to stop harmful decisions, he says, "because if I can't mitigate harm then I'm allowing harm to occur."

As a journalist I am still shocked by how quickly the attack on the CDC was set aside.
How rarely I have read the name David Rose in the past few months is for me a pretty good indicator of how much a large swathe of US media has failed to meet this moment.)

"[RFK jr.] may as well have shot the bullets himself [...] and I hold him and his colleagues personally responsible for that violence and the death of that officer", says Daskalakis.
Their rhetoric dehumanizing people who do public health created the environment that led to the attack, he says.

Daskalakis says that for him the lasting memory of 2025 will be the attack on the CDC on August 8, during which the police officer David Rose was killed.
"That was one of my moments where I was like, we've crossed a threshold."
And he does not mince words about who he sees as responsible: RFK jr.
