what's another decade hey? despicable stuff.

Yep. I know lots of people who were holding out for being eligible for settlement under the current regime in a year or so time. Timetable for this I think could be implementation by autumn next year.

And god help those people who are on the 10 year route to settlement based on having small children and have recourse to public funds with some overstaying in their past. Some of the most vulnerable people in the country hit hardest.

If you're a parent with leave under the 10 year route with recourse to public funds who has previously overstayed their visa for an extensive period, i.e. some of the most vulnerable people in the country, you're looking at up to a 30 year wait for ILR if this goes through. Right?

Yikes sorry! Good point: Provision, Criterion, or Practice. Got lost in legal chat.

And it's not just some indirect PCP risk stuff, I am thinking about direct discrimination.

Thank you for your service.

The table in the consultation document confirms this. You get a deduction of 5 years if you meet "core family requirements" which I take to mean Appendix FM proper.

"Fairer Pathway". Taken on face value, I'd be delighted if the actual unfairness in the settlement process was being addressed: extortionate fees, harsh requirements, no rights of appeal etc. . But we all know what it really means...

But Labour will never follow them into this particular fantasy world.

I prefer the Pet Shop Boys' earlier stuff.

Yes. This has been the case since I think around 2005/Blair government. Bonus: the current government has given less time to those here under the Ukraine Schemes who will never qualify for indefinite leave to remain with this status.

With the new data on net migration and the lower than expected visa applications in October we‘re looking at even lower figures. -20,000 to 80,000 in 2026 as a first rough calculation. Lower if dependant numbers start to fall (which I‘d expect to happen purely based on main applicant numbers).

And we've still the ILR consultation to come!
November 18, 2025 at 12:37 PM
And the net result? Look at where our politics is now.

Have those shifts and movements over the years addressed the problems they claim to address? No.

Do we need an honest discussion about immigration in this country despite talking about it all the time? Yes, but with realism/facts.
